Nooo, I'm referring to my first fight from over a year ago. I found out that the guy that beat me just won the state golden gloves by KOing the guy who won last year (and ended up taking second at nationals). So I'm thinking it might be a good idea to learn how to deal with that guy/style.

    This should be a sticky.

My first fight, I faced a guy like this and all my corner told me to do was keep running from his right hand ( which was his power punch). It didnt work and I ended up eating punches. Was very upset and dissapointed with my coach after that one. It didnt help that he was 60+pounds heavier than me either :)

Hey Kill, ye very tough situations. Obviously every answer is going to come different fighters. I can only give you my opinion based as a speed fighter. I know what you mean, im 60KG and sometimes spar vs guys who are pure 60Kg muscle and getting hit HURTS, Your best move it to cancel, He jabs, knock it down counter. (always remember MOVE YOUR HEAD), usually if hes a tough guy and your a speed fighter you can dodge hits and 'stun' him easily. Put alot of fast jabs double jabs, keep your key punches for when he decides to get offensive, try your best to find a gap in his guard. Obviously the best you can do vs these fighters is actually being the smarter fighter, they get confident because they KNOW that they are strong and can continue hurting you and as soon as a fighter gets overconfident thats when he loses. This is only if your a speed fighter

My adivce would start with as soon as you can claim the centre of the ring, this will allow you more space to go back on and therefore lessen the amount of time you get cornered on the ropes where he can hit you. Next id go "under" his shots if he throws a powerfull straight punch sit and right hand to the body and move away. Use your jab as a range guide and dont let him relax just pop it out quick and sharp to distract him.

hes small in height and not very quick? seems ideal for most boxers styles. u need to work on your jab and keep it in his face all the time, even with the jab isnt particularly strong at least your pushing him back and keepin him distracted.
