I think this is a potentially very good point. Between a solid showing against Wlad, then the Toney fights, I don't think it's fair to call him "all hype" - he was pretty good. But When he lost that drive, he just didn't have the skills to get by without serious training.

People should be honest, though - he wasn't a complete bust and was a legitimate top-5 guy for a couple of years (in an admitedly weak division, of course). No savior, obvioulsly, but a solid contender who should have been able to do more. "Disappointment" is a good word.

Peter would be having a very good and lucrative career if the Klitschkos didnt take up boxing. That was his problem, Peter ran into two of the greatest HWT champs of all time. Kind of like a tough luck Jerry Quarry.

Peter was pretty good at his best. Never great or close to it but he was dangerous when he fought Wlad.

The thing was Peter never KOed or even knocked down anyone that had a good Chin. It was all smoke and mirrors.

Calvin Brock was better than Peter imo. Brock fought better opposition on the way up to Wlad and had that crushing KO of Lawrence who is better than Jeremy Williams. Peter just had the size and look that allowed him to be hyped.

Peter had a very exciting style that the average fan fell in love with fast. I think once he hired a new team, it was all downhill from there. I feel the Sam Peter I was a fan of most, was the one that fought Wlad in 05. Peter at that time was fearless, extremely powerful, and downright mean in the ring.

For those that claim Peter was a hypejob, should watch what he did to Wlad in their match. At the age of 25, had a prime Wlad holding on for dear life for half of that fight. Down several times, a few panic attacks, and only lost by 3 points on all three of the judges scorecards. Peter did what 6 or 7 of Wlad's last oppenents couldn't do, which is give Wlad a competitive fight.

    Just Wait.
Big Sam is right now perusing the top-10 of the WBU, weighing up his options before he decides "WHO NEX?"
