Laid back and soft spoken but at the same time very observant and serious. Calm demeanor and not rattled easily, he's an OG. He won't let sparring matches continue if a kid is getting hurt bad. He emphasizes conditioning and cardio and makes everyone skip rope and use the tread mill.

He doesnt go easy on you with the mitts. You will work up quite a sweat and he'll point out if your form is bad immediately.

Haven't been for half a dozen years or more. Too old for sparring now, too broken down. Used to be quite into it in the 90's. Got the privilege of having some work with John David Jackson when he was starting to steer toward training. Still hit the heavybag for an hour a few times a week and do the roadwork, tho. And still go to the fights when something happens in my area.

The heavybag is good for me when I have a bad day at work. That or running helps me get my stress etc out.

Was it an MMA gym? Does your trainer teach you boxing technique or is it more mixed-martial arts style striking?

Monday, so 2 days ago (UK). I keep up my training regularly throughout the week. I spar on Thursdays, with skilled guys around my weight (64kg - 72kg) for around 10 rounds. I've been training since I was 8 years old. I'm now 18. My brothers have all trained extensively and boxed competitively for a long time.

My dad is my coach and runs the gym. He's a pretty 'old school' guy, and I'd say is pretty well known in the UK amateur scene (dont wanna dox myself). He's been around boxing since the early 70s, had over 50 bouts himself. His quality of training is definitely high, and I can also say that for other gyms I've gone to for sparring etc. Some gyms are definitely middling to poor though, despite having superior equipment. Experience in the sport is vital for a trainer IMO.

He teaches a variety of martial arts, yes. In fact I've been doing taekwondo since I was 10 and only started boxing when I was 16 (I'm 18 btw). I've also trained in Jiu Jitsu there

He fights at heveier weight class I think. I'm the smallest out of the 'main 3' in my gym (but still the best). 64kg.

Yep. I'd be confident saying that I have more experience than quite a bit of the forum, though. Sounds arrogant, I know.

George is the youngest one here iirc, but yes we're all teens

George told me he currently weighs around 150lbs (68kg). I'm sure he can sweat out 4kg no problem.

Very cool. Who are some of your dad's favorite fighters? Does he encourage his fighters to watch/model themselves after any particular fighters?
