These two were the perfect fighters, hands down, they had reach, height, they never wasted a punch and they both had killer power in either hand. Most importantly, they knew how to use their attributes and they were both cool as cuccumbers. I would love to see a tall, experienced veteran with explosive power in both hands and a dynamite chin hold down a division, the way they did. You might argue Vitali and Wladimir are, Vitali is the closest to it I suppose.
I just imagined him fighting Monzon, and he could of brought a baseball bat in the ring and still would've got slaughtered. I love Margarito, but c'mon B, don't troll me.
Kostya 'Sharmba Mitchell in his top 3 wins' Tszyu? Maybe he'd register if he'd beaten better competition, but you can't compare him to the likes of Monzon and Arguello, even in a technical sense, when he beat fighters of such a low calibre.
What about Erik Morales? He was quite lanky for a small guy, had the boxing skills, just liked to brawl too much
I'd agree with Morales :good Watching his fight with Junior Jones (one of his earlier step-ups, after Zaragoza) he looked very technically sound, threw some good accurate shots, and appeared to deal very well with Junior's speed and jab. He was a more technically sound fighter than given credit for, but like you said, he had a tendency to brawl and abandon his otherwise well-polished skills.
Guys like Monzon and Arguello dont come around often. Its not necessarily a bad thing, it just means that the two are ATG fighters
In terms of not wasting punches, JMM and maybe Robert Guererro. Obviously Juan lacks the height and reach attributes.
While not exactly to the same standard of an Alexis Arguello, Robert Guerrero does possess the sort of economical punching and use of height that Arguello did. Too bad that he doesn't have the power or the combination punching skills of Arguello.
