How can we have an increased number of fighters past the veteran age of 35 years old ruling this sport ? I think I have the answer : The young fighters are scared, don't want to challenge or risk losing their virgin records... I am looking at a prospect like Ryan Garcia right now. He is 24 years old but what is he waiting ? One or two fights per year is a joke. These young prospects need to step up. They are in their mid 20's and not even close to a championship fight.
Exactly, all following the floyd blueprint while Floyd himself at 24 already finished his 130 reign. Pac had already had his best win on beating up Barrera at 24. Oscar already had belts in 3 divisions and fought chavez, whitaker and camacho. Tyson fought his last fight before prison at 24. 24 is not even a prosoect age. You shoukd already be well into your prime by then a d have accomplished some things. Now all they do is duck, avoid, talk on social media and look for easy quick paydays without putting the work in. Its worst at heavyweight but its all troughout boxing unfortunately.
You could just as easily none of the top guys want to risk their careers with the young bucs. When was the last time you saw Fury or Wilder in there with someone who wasn't 35 already? Same for Canelo. He hasn't wanted smoke with any of the youngsters ever! But I get your point, there's less young guns around to choose from. There's just a lot more guys getting late starts in boxing in general. It's still better than watching UFC
I agree with Guerra. It is all about inflating a virgin record. Boxing is a business yes, but how about the costumers? We pay to watch a sport on the decline. I want to see more fights or I will keep my money. The business is failing. Work for your costumers first, then the money will follow. But no, they are thinking backward : money first. I am telling you money will become more scarce in this sport. We need a Don King 2.0 to get these guys to fight otherwise they should go back working for the ice cream shop.
I think the actual young fighters aren't doing so badly. Guys who just came out of the Olympics like Keyshawn Davis are staying active and doing good work. There's a weird, failure to launch generation just above them. This is particularly apparent at the glamor divisions of 147, 160, and HW. You've got old guys like Fury, Wilder, Usyk, Spence, and Crawford. Then there are some decent youngsters out there (Ortiz, Ennis, Anderson, etc), but there is a missing middle. At HW I would say Hunter, Hrgovic, Whyte, and a few others can be identified as at fault. At WW I'm not sure who it was that fizzled out, I'm sure once I hear the name it will be obvious.
