Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought until the TV program the other night. Not saying Fenech's completely won me over, but he didn't come across anywhere near as bad as I'd thought.
Barry Michael. The guy survived some of the most punishing fights anyone could witness. Retains his faculties, long term memory, business aptitude, commentates fight regularly, and remains a top bloke. He was never knocked of his feet in 61 pro bouts, and turned pro at the age of 15-16.
mate, I missed the program unfortunately. Fenech is a very well spoken, well presenting charactor.... believe me though, he would take the watch of ya wrist, and the fighters out of ya stable without a care, feeling of guilt or appology. He would be a great car sales man. He's dogged a great deal of friends of mine, who thought he was genuine... or just followed his name. A cunning rat.
I saw an interview with Dempsey when he must have been near 80 he seemed fine and lucid to me.Billy Conn was interviewd many times about Louis he also came across as ok ,perhaps it was just old age that finally impaired their one on one skills.
Ive been told that Tunney hit the bottle in his latter years...to the degree that it became embarrassing to take him to a resturaunt... do to the risk of Tunney becoming a mess?? Anyone heard this???
