Dan Rafael said his Promotional Company is out of business in his chat last week. Still also has a tax lien on his home.
One of the saddest things 'bout this sport is seeing old greats struggling for cash. I gather that Roys got some slightly longer term work doing promotional work and various stuff for Hyrunov in Russia. Goddamn, I just hope he makes enough that he doesn't have to get back in the ring. Anyone who ain't read Jack London should an' if you're a boxing fan this is a good one to start with: http://www.jacklondons.net/apieceofsteak.html
If you have $10 million worth of property, like say $5 million house, $3 million condo in like new york and $2 million pad elsewhere. You are paying 300k in property taxes a year. And that is just 10 million, he could have a 50 million dollar house
were does all there money go ? ho's , cars, mansions, bling, bad investments, child support, taxes, lawyer fees, court cost, bills, taking care of friends & family financially. anyone else care to add to the list ? i know exactly were the money is going lol.
Bull****. Jones is one of the few boxers who didn't waste his money. He has plenty of money and still makes good money from commentary. There is no way he is broke. James Toney is broke. Roy Jones could do what George Foreman did.
I do know that at one time Roy had a prize ****. He loved to show his prize **** and actually got into some trouble for **** fighting. Perhaps Roy lost a lot of money betting on **** fighting?
I know he's been doing some work in Russia for Hyrunov that looks like it could be a decent gig, but it's hard to imagine that he's taken his last 3 fights just for the hell of it. I mean, do you know he's not broke, or just that you think he ain't? TBH I really hope he's doing all right, cos seeing a fighter of his stature having to carry on fighting so long just ain't nice. I hope he can hang them up for good now. Anyways this work for Hyrunov and the commentary work oughta pay the bills at least. As was pointed out above, you don't have to be ostentatiously profligate to spend a lotta money. Supporting the kids, friends and family in the manner to which they're accustomed, bad investments, taxes, legal fees, etc all add up. All it takes is for your expenses to be more than your income an' watch those $millions evaporate.
it wasn't long ago that Roy toured England doing small venue after dinner guest speaking. The guy is clearly broke.
He maybe broke he may not be. He maybe simply looking to make as much cash as possible to support the lifestyle he has become accustomed to rather than pay off debt. Unless someone has hard evidence other than rumours I'd like to think he has not fallen on hard times like so many other champions. His decision to fight on may not be just for the money, he may simply enjoy training and fighting many fighters struggle to leave the sport. Hopkins told his mother he'd retire at 40 yet he can't seem to stop. Holmes is still very wealthy yet fought well past his prime.
pretty much this ^. U can spend tons of money only for normal stuffs, not necessarily for things like exotic cars, expensive exotic vacantions with your family and friends , big mansions , big expensive parties, coke and women or other eccentric things. Out there are infinite options of how to spend your money. Anyway its not our business what a man is doing with his earnings and I hope RJJ is financially ok. :good
There was an article a few years ago regarding Roy and his record company-which turned out to be a total disaster and there are also tax problems he has run into. Broke?Probably not but he doesn't have the money most people think he has. Touring around the UK doing speeches at chicken dinners confirms this issue.
I believe that Roy did squander most of his money. His record company probably had a lot to do with it. That being said, I don't think he'll ever be broke by our standards because he can always make a living doing appearances and autograph/sports memorabilia signings but I do believe he blew most of the money he earned throughout his career.
