No one ever mentions the lay off Jirov had prior to the Toney fight. He looked really good considering he was out for more than a year.
Agree. People forget how much of a beast Gomez was at 190. He was much more of a banger than a boxer at that weight than at heavyweight. Two southpaws in their prime meeting up, I'm giving the edge to Jirov because I really think his strength and aggression would have gotten to Gomez. We'll never know for sure. It's a shame too, because both guys had a lot of defenses of their belts, but no real great defenses. There were no unification bouts in that era at all at Cruiser.
