 Wlad controls the distance better than a boxer who fights with his hands down.

There are any number of decent contenders from the 70s and 80s who would rank above them, let alone other champions

Wlad can do all things better than Vitali. Wlad has the better Jab, better movement, great ringgeneralship (with Steward in his corner), better and harder right hand. Wlad can move and throw punches at the same time, change the angles and throwing left hooks, turning the jab into a little left hook. Wlad has great movement for a man his size. Wlad´s chin is not so bad some, Wlad was never knocked out cold and never quit in a fight. In his fights he lost, but he never gave up. Wlad shows great heart but he was too "green" and never learned how to protect himself better in this situations. With Steward he learned all these things.

Wlad is ATG Top 20, that´s for sure. And at the end of his career he will be Top 10.

the only flaw in wlad's game right now is infighting. he threw a BEAUTY of an uppercut against ruslan and if he could round out his inside game a touch, he'd be about as complete a heavy as you could hope for :good

Actually, I don't see any vulnerability in Wlads game anymore, as opposed to the times when he lost to Brewster and Sanders. Not "beautiful" or crowd-pleasing, but very effective and very, very hard to beat. Noone of the past who doesn't have a sledge hammer powerpunch would beat this version of Wlad. The candidates to beat him would be the ones who can land a surprise punch with full knockout power, as you couldn't beat him with the same trick time and again. Careerwise, he already has that losses, so it's difficult to overcome. H2H he is a tricky customer to beat as of now. No slow crouching stiff who made a career beating stiffer and a lot less athletic 185 lb part time fighters in the 20s to 60s would "easily" or "surely" beat him. The only guys I would see as a lock in beating him would be the mythical prime Tyson, and a prime Lennox (almost any version) as that guy had the power and the eye to deliver. Honorary mention to the guys with freak power and the ability to stay in the fight for 12 rounds, like a McCall (forgot to add him on the lock), as they would always have a chance to land that shot out of nowhere. Careerwise and H2H, he should be top 15, with some fighters being able to beat him but not overtake his resume, or vice versa.

Vitali is difficult to rate, as he is invulnerable to the "pressure fighter" who would "grind down" his opponent. NOONE grinds Vitali down, it's the other way around - save a freak accident like the cut from hell Lennox was glad to capitalize on. However, a Byrd type stinker could frustrate him, and possibly beat him with a better offense than Byrd had. Technicians with good reflexes and speed would be the cryptonite, no "tough guy" as of the 20s to 60s. Exactly the type of guy who could never win a fight with Wlad. Careerwise, he is difficult to rate, as he didn't have any significant fights in his physical prime, uninjured (up to Herbie Hide). That makes it hard to argue him into the top 30. H2H he is top 10 easily, in his prime, only extremely technically capable fighters could have beaten him.

What does that have to do with anything? Wlad controls the distance better because he's able to land and time his punches - particularly the jab - more consistently while having his feet planted. Vitali is always having to lean and step backwards to avoid punches. You don't have a clue what you are talking about.

:patsch Fighting with your hands low is all about controlling the distance at all times.
Controlling the distance is, above all else, about FOOTWORK. Remember that before you regurgitate something you have read on a boxing forum. FOOTWORK.

    Obviously a trolling thread.

Still too early to rate them and it will be hard to rate them seeing how weak the division is compared to Ali's days, Tyson, Holyfield or Lewis. Still they have a long way to go and slowly the division is starting to get hot names rising so we're in for some good fights before we finally vote. One thing can't be denied BOTH Klitschkos are open and ready to fight ANYONE the public demands and promotes immediately.

Both have done enough to crak the top 20. And both are still going strong.

And Wlad has far better footwork. What's your point here exactly?
