I was wondering where you focus when punching.

This is what I do and how I have been trained. I keep my eyes on my opponents shoulders and elbows. I was told the shoulders and elbows will tip you off to punches before the gloves will. I will look at my opponent in the eyes as a feint, or I will look down as a feint also. When I punch, either to the head or body, I rely on my peripherial vision to strike the target. I never look directly on focus on their chin or liver for example.

Is this wrong????? It just seems like maybe I would be more accurate if I focused more on where I was punching. But would that take away from my defense?

Thanks in advance for any help guys.

I don't focus at all, a small detail in movement may betray a punch, try to catch the whole image.
