Where do you place Hearns-Andries in the list of Tommy's best wins?

Thomas Hearns TKO10 Dennis Andries for the WBC lightheavyweight title in 1987

Natural ww/lmw stopping a guy who fought out his whole career at 175 and 190

Is this one of Tommy's best wins? :bbb

I would rate his knockout over Cuevas as his best win.. Then the Benitez win and Duran win even either 2 or 3. Hill is 4. Shuler 5.. I would say Roldan was 6 and Andries 7 maybe. Andries was good and a legit 3 time 175 pound champ.. The fact is Tommy was the first man to win the welt. title and then later win the 175 pound title. . Many of Hearns wins were overlooked because he lost his two biggest fights to Leonard and Hagler. His wins were much greater than Hagler's wins I think.

No way is Roldan a better win than Andries. :nono

And for me, Hill is Hearns's greatest win. OK, Tommy was well past his best and he wasn't the same frightening force he was in the early 80s, but if you consider the circumstances that was a pretty incredible victory.

A damn good win for Hearns in 1987. Hearns looked strong at around 173 pounds. I also like how the fight was covered by ABC television instead of cable... Andries was tuff and game, but out-classed all the way...

The referee was a jackass from South America. I can't recall his name, but he sucked and had little clue as to what was happening in the ring...

I have the fight tape in a box....

I wouldn't describe Hearns as a "natural ww/lm" - he was a freak of nature.

    It's a good win.

Very underrated brave British performance from Andries too. He never got the recognition then, or now. He improved from this loss. I heard he went straight over to the Kronk gym before he left the states to ask for advice. Andries was a warrior.

I think it was a great win also. None of the other guys in the fab 4, Duran,Hagler,Leonard could have beaten Hill that night. 10 title defenses and undefeated. Although Benitez was a solid champ at 154 and had actually fought better I thought at 154 as he did anywhere else. Hearns top 4 fights were Cuevas,Duran,Benitez, Hill. I thought the Roldan fight was great because Tommy held on and beat a solid guy to win his 4th title.

yeah it was interesting having it on abc. I saw it on youtube a few years ago. I think the ref was from Panama. Isaac Herrera. The ABC analysts were coming down on him for letting the fight go on and on.

Hearns career is sad because wins were over Hill and Andries added to Cuevas,Duran,Benitez and Hill who are all Hall of famers was overshadowed by the Leonard and Hagler fight solely on the fact those two fights were the biggest ppv of his career. As for the fights he won with Cuevas,Duran,Benitez and Hill, I think all 4 are ATG and the caliber of wins are wins hardly an ATG fighters have. Hearns fought everyone. He was fortunate to be able to fight the best. But losing to Leonard and Hagler seems to hurt him when he beat other greats. As though that is all people care to remember are the losses.

So you're saying his losses to the best fighters he ever faced shouldn't define him, but rather, his great triumphs throughout his entire career and his ability to still achieve greatness past his prime and above his best weight should matter more? Interesting, very interesting.

Cuea sprawling anti-duran post almost unreadable in it's childlike simplicity and bitter contradictory nature.

Got to be in his top 5.

Behind - Cuevas, Benitez, Duran and Hill.

No it was definetly not one of Hearns best wins.
He won, and a win is a win, and that is all that should be said of this fight.

Andries was a crude tough guy, nothing exceptional but he happened to hold a belt. The light heavyweight division was lacking in talent at the time and it wasn't seen as a special accomplishment by Hearns. Andries did prove his great grit and determination by becoming the champion again, but it's Hearns's win over Hill that stands out among his light heavyweight accomplishments. His win over Andries was simply a part of his campaign to draw attention to himself by winning titles in 4 divisions, which he accomplished by later knocking out Roldan.
