    Barkley's record is 43(27KOs)-19(7KOs)-1

    His notable fights:

Lost to James Toney, Roberto Duran, Michael Nunn, Nigel Benn and Trevor Berbick

    Won over Hearns twice

He is one of Roberto Duran's career highlight..

How would he fare against today's middleweights? or light heavyweights?

If he was around today he would be a multiple weight Champion! The Blade would easily win straps from Middleweight to Light-heavyweight possibly even Cruiserweight as well.
The Blade never got the respect or money he deserved!

I don't know about that.. He'll be facing opponents named:

    Andre Ward
    Carl Froch
    Anthony Direll
    George Groves

I see him lose 10/10.. Should we go back a little?

    Roy Jones Jr.
    Joe Calzaghe
    Bernard Hopkins

He loses again 10/10 in each and every fighter listed there..

    Leave alone Light Heavy Weight..

    Let's see 160 then..

    GGG
    Miguel Cotto
    Peter Quillin
    Matt Korobov

    Loses again 10/10..

    How about 154?

    Floyd Mayweather Jr.
    Saul Alvarez
    Demetrius Andrade
    Erislandy Lara

I can't see any upset.. :think

If he got the right fights of course he would!

Barkley would beat Soliman for the IBF at middleweight. The Blade would be too big and strong for Cotto IMO.

He would beat Anthony Dirrell for the WBC at super-middleweight.

Barkley would have done well against Beibut Shumenov, Nathan Cleverly and even Chad Dawson and all of them had straps.

Barkley had a great heart, but he had some skills as well. Don't write him off with this lot guys.

But the only good boxer he could beat was Hearns.. Some unknown boxer with a lot of losses managed to pull a win over him..

Makes me think, did Duran hit the jackpot? How much credit should he get? :think

This is ridiculous, have you ever seen the guy fight or are you just a boxrec warrior. You're trying to tell me he beat Hearn's but he's going to loose to Floyd, Alvarez, Cotto ?

If you honestly believe that then there's no point in discussing this further. The Barkley that Duran fought would have beaten all three that night, of that I'm sure.

I think you should watch the fight and decide for yourself. Barkley fought a hell of a good fight that night. Both Gil Clancy and Al Bernstein were signing his praises.

Honestly the real answer to this question is simply. Watch the fight.
It was the fight of the year, so it's worth watching.

In his last 18 fights he fought opponents with a combined record of 258 losses, beating only 10 of them..

    If you ask me,

Cotto over Martinez >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Duran over Barkley

I have a hard time ranking Barkley. In a discussion about great middleweights, he doesn't even come up in the conversation. He had Hearns number but that's just about it.

Most of those fights were at middleweight and super middleweight and he was well into his 40's. And at least one or two of those fights he just the short end of the judging.

No he wasn't the greatest fight in his mid 40's fighting 30lb over his best weight, but he started out at 118, and he was fighting at 160+

I don't think Barkley's an ATG at middleweight but the fight he had against Duran was a hell of a good performance. As Gil Clancy said, one you win the title you're immediately a 25% better fighter. Barkley fought his ass of in that fight. The fight against Hearn's was also a great effort. He had a very good punch was about the size of a light heavyweight and fought with a lot of heart, he got up off the floor to beat Hearns.
