The Ring has him at #4. I think that's way too high IMO. Yeah, he made Calzaghe look bad but he really had to pull out all the tricks just to last 12 rounds. Based on that performance, i would say that he isn't even top 10 worthy right now and i'm a huge fan of his. Heck, even in the LHW rankings, i would rate Dawson and Johnson ahead of Hopkins.

    Thoughts?

I still have to see how Dawson does against Tarver before I can rank him over Hopkins at LHW. I'd probably have LHW looking something like this:
    1)Calzaghe
    2)Hopkins
    3)Tarver
    4)Dawson
    5)Johnson
    6)Erdei
    7)Garay
    8)Jones
    9)Woods
    10)Diaconu

Cloud right at the edge of breaking the top 10.

    P4P, I have Hopkins between 11-15.

How so? Most people had Hopkins at #3 or 4 before he fought Calzaghe.

How does a razor-thin loss against Calzaghe, who was also #3 or 4 on most lists not warrant a top 3 spot NOW?

most people did not have him 3 or 4 before he lost to calzaghe.the ring had him 3 most other people were saying he was overrated.I do think hopkins' career accomplishments are underrated by some, he is an atg and i don't dislike the man at all.He is 43 years old and has lost 3 of his last five fights. And when you analyse the way Jermain Taylor has floundered since i can't make a case for hopkins number 3 pound for pound. But believe me i respect hopkins more than some people do.

This is hilarious to me. It's great how Hopkins was like 3 or whatever pre-Calzaghe, yet Calzaghe beats him and people like to pretend he wasn't/and or will criticize him for it

"When will Calzaghe ever face a p4p fighter?" :-(

Yeah, a slew of Calzaghe fans were stating that, but I'm hard-pressed to remember too many reasonable posters who did not have him at least in the top five, especially considering he had back-to-back wins against top ten P4P guys in the lead-up to the Calzaghe fight.

Regardless, I am at a loss to see how anyone can have him ranked much lower than Calzaghe.

the tarver performance was brilliant. The wright victory was tainted because it was at 170, and wright had never proved himself above 160

But Wright was still universally recognized as an elite P4P'er, and Hopkins had only just made the jump to that weight recently himself, so methinks this win is much less 'tainted' than many indiciate, especially considering their respective performances against Taylor.
