Where do you rank Hopkins P4P? Would you give Calzaghe credit for beating him up? Please us the thread to dicuss how the manner of victory might matter and whetehr you would give more or less credit for other wins.
I think, right now, I would give less credit to Joe for a clear win against Hopkins (and remember - it is hard to look good agains Hopkins) than for a clear win against Dawson...given what I know about these two and how I expect them to fight. The age difference also plays on my mind a lot - Joe would be beating a much older, old, Hopkins. On the other hand, he could beat a slightly green, yet to reach his peak Dawson...I think I would take the second...especially since part of Joe's success is his speed - which is a young man's game...it wouldn't be that impressive if he outsped an old man... BUT, I remain open to have my mind changed...if it turns out Hopkins is still the toughest opponent for Joe in Spring 2008, then, great...I will get behind that fight fully! Of course, if Joe can do two more fights, it would be preferable to fight Dawson second...letting him get one more fight under his belt for experience' sake first...and not fighting an even older Hopkins, for example; in that case, I think we have to decide who would give Joe a harder fight between Woods and Hopkins, in Spring 2008. I don't like the poll, by the way...of course I would give credit to Joe for beating Hopkins, but the question is, would I not give him more credit if he beat someone else! I gave Joe a hell of a lot of credit for beating Mikkel...I want to give him close to as much credit in his next fight!
I'd give him no credit. Not in my own mind. I might lie on here though to try and enchance Joe's reputation however. But then I don't rate Hopkins inside the top 10 P4P now. But if you do it is a complete contradiction not to give credit. But I'd rather Hopkins was rightly removed form the listing all together. It is potentially enraging.
If they fought at Light Heavyweight it would be for the Ring anyway... not that the titles matter in terms of these legends. I would give Joe lots of credit for beating Hopkins, who is known for dominating Southpaws, and is exceedingly difficult to get a game plan going against.
I rate him top 5, and being as Joe has never faced anyone who's beem recognized as a pound-for-pound talent, I would give him a great deal of credit for even taking the fight. If he wins, tremendous credit is warranted, and even if he loses a competitive bout, his stock may still rise in my mind.
The aforementioned boxers look at Joe Calzaghe and think $$$$$$$$$$. Your greedy boxers mentioned (except GJ but he's Jamaican) have all priced themselves out of the fight. When will you ever get that?
