Vitali's resume isn't very deep, but still he won the fights against Sanders, Hide, Peter, Briggs, Johnson, Donald, Bean, Solis Arreola, Gomes, Adamek. Where do you rank Derek Chisora among his best wins?

I would say: Sanders, Peter, Adamek, Arreola, Gomes and then Chisora.

I don't think Chisora has ever been ranked top 10 by the Ring.

Peter, Sanders, Arreola, Adamek, Gomez and K. Johnson all were around the time Vitali fought them.

That's a decent guide, though personally, I rank the Chisora win higher than Adamek.

Hide was probably better than Chisora, so technically him too, though stylewise, with their respective punch resistance, he was always going to be an easier (albeit potentially could have been more dangerous for a round or two) fight for Vitali than Derek.

Chisora has never really been consistent and has always lost to the top talent. Vitali, Usyk, Haye, Fury 3x, all beat him clean. I think Pulev too the first time. Some of his most notable wins were against guys clearly on their last legs, Price, Takam, even Joyce looked shot. Credit to Chisora always taking on the names and always giving his best but from a pure talent spot I would rank him probably around 6-7 at best on Vitali’s best wins. Clearly behind, Sanders, Gomez, Peter, Kirk Johnson, Adamek, Hide, and Donald.

    I don't.

Chisora was just another fight for Vitali at that time - he'd be lucky just to break a top 10 of his best wins.

Nowadays, whenever someone beats Chisora, they're a HoFer in the making.

I don't believe he has been either tbh and it's insane it's not widely talked about. I imagine though, this win will get him into the top ten which is ironic.

Perhaps @SolomonDeedes can confirm if he's ever had a top ten ranking.

I think Chisora might be rated in the top 10 now once Ring Magazine update their rankings.

Joyce was rated number 8 I believe prior to the loss to Chisora so it's possible Chisora will sneak into the top 10 after that win.

I know I'm going to sound like a hypocrite here because I like to use rankings alot in my debates but sometimes you need to look at the context.

For example Gomez literally has no Heavyweight resume against any notable Heavyweights apart from a 42 year old Oliver McCall.

So whilst Gomez was indeed a top 10 ranked Heavyweight I'd still rate Chisora over him based on their performances at Heavyweight.

Chisora arguably beat Parker, Whtye, Helenius, and was very unlucky not to get the nod in any of those fights.

Chisora has wins over Spzilka, Johnson, Sexton, Takam, Joyce, Price, Pulev, not a great resume obviously but decent names along with his notable performances against top 10 Heavyweights in which he has strong arguments to winning decisions against.

I'd rank Chisora over someone like Gomez at Heavyweight in all honesty.

Yeah I'm half expecting Chisora to get ranked for the first ever time when The Ring next update their rankings, which aged 40 and clearly past his best, is crazy, and probably is as much attributable to the fact Joyce's no.8 ranking going into the fight didn't reflect just how far gone he is, as it is anything else.

The Ring probably took Gomez's CW career into account to a degree when ranking him at HW. At HW, his wins over Sinan Sam and perhaps even Vyrvhys (whose only other career defeat was an MD vs Chagaev) are better wins than a 42-year old McCall. That said, you'll get no argument from me that his work at HW did not warrant a top 10 ranking and isn't as substantial as Chisora's, even though I suspect he may have been marginally better than Chisora.

As to your wider point, I agree that we should take rankings as strong indicators to be viewed in context and with the benefit of hindsight, as opposed to the sole arbiter, when evaluating the quality of a win.

Sam Peter held a belt and Dereck Chisora never has, but I'm honestly not sure that Peter is better h2h.

Sure the guy has 15 losses but I could see Peter losing to pretty much any of those opponents save the chinny Helenius.

For other fighters, the day Chisora graces their resume is the most important day of their life

But for Vitali, it was Tuesday.

I think you forgot sir, Peter was actually melted by Helenius a lifetime ago

    original question:
I don't know top 10 maybe, I think it's hard to name 9 other fighters on Vitali's resume that I think would beat Chisora, 5 yea but 10. Vitali's resume isn't the greatest.

Kirk, Briggs, Donald, Solis, Adamek, Peter............I don't think Chisora is that far behind anyone on his resume. I think it says more about Vitali's resume than how good Chisora was.

I absolutely did forget! Haha, mission failed successfully, proves my point that Peter doesn't exactly tower above Chisora h2h.

Is he behind most of them at all? I mean Arreola's best wins are shot McCline, Eric Molina, Seth Mitchell and Chazz Witherspoon. I think Chisora's resume is better. Briggs had beaten Liakhovich onlly and ancient Mercer who was in his mid 40s. And got a gift decision against 48 y.o. George Foreman. Add here the fact that Chisora never got beaten by Cedreck Fields or Darroll Wilson caliber fighters, while Briggs got beaten by them TWICE.
