I ranked him in the back half of the top 10 back in 2019 but then he disappeared for two years. To get into the top 5 I'd like to see him get another good win so we don't have boxing ruled by a man on a milk carton.
Alvarez didn't appear to be the smaller man in the ring. Bivol is a natural super-middleweight who fights at light heavyweight.
Damn sure the man at LHW. I remember, from a few years back until not too long ago, lots of people roasting me for maintaining that he, given the proper nurturing circumstances and navigation through boxing politics, would emerge as the best at 175, and not Beterbiev. Ho-hum...
Yeah I’ve always backed him too. He’s not the most exciting fighter so he goes under the radar. Having said that, the things he does well, he does really ****ing well.
"BuT iF tHeY fOuGhT aRtUr FoR sUrE wOuLd KaYo HiM". ...like, based on what, I've always wondered? Bivol's complete dearth of documented chin red flags, rendering him incapable of lasting thirty seconds longer than Enrico freaking Kolling to reach the finish line?
He's top 10 but not top 5. While the win over Canelo was a great win, it's still only one win. Bivol needs to prove more than beating one great fighter to be truly ranked among the top 5 P4P for me. He needs to show he can cope with more styles, build a deeper resume for me to rank him higher.
Fair, fair, but it does need to be reconciled that a lot of people for a good long while did have Canelo at #1. And he didn't exactly just squeak by him or anything.
I'll wait until I see the fight to make further comments. But H2H its Gvozdyk>Canelo. And Beterbiev is unified. I cant even rate Bivol #1 at 175.
