I currently have him at number 14.. Fighting as a blown up middleweight with the success he has had i feel he's always been very underrated..

Taken in a pound for pound context a number of heavyweight champions are seen in a diferent light.

    Patterson is one of them.

Tommy Burns should be off the scale pound for pound but sadly he is only ranked as a heavyweight.

Top 15 sounds reasonable. He did become the first man to regain the heavyweight title, won an olympic gold medal and was one of the youngest champions in the history of the sport. He also beat a few decent contenders both during and after his reign....

Some criticize him for avoiding some of the better challengers when he was champion, and this may be true to some extent. But, overall I think his resume is generally very good and worthy of a high rating...

I like how Toney is considered a modern day miracle for doing this, when Patterson gets no credit for being a lineal two time heavyweight champion.

Patterson has to be among the most underrated Heavyweights ever. I have him inside the top 15 but not the top 10. He is the second youngest Heavyweight Champ of all time and is the first to regain the crown after losing it.

He could have been the first three time champ if it wasn't for being robbed against Ellis.

Supposedly got screwed against Maxim in a big way too.

Got to wonder why he was shafted so often.

well the common belief is that patterson in his lightheavy/post super middle day he was a flurry puncher. he would throw great combinations with that fantastic left hook. that seemed to launch at will.

and he won 3 big rounds but was outhustled in the other 5

it's the weakness of boxing scorecard system in that they are flawed to the point that you can only win a good round for 1 point and a poor round you dont recieve a point and thus you now are level even tho you have fought 3 times harder then the other guy. do you know what i mean?:think

im not saying he lost but he wasnt in a one sided fight by any means. there was a thread on here saying it wasnt as big a robbery as you think....i think amy or mcgrain scored it a maxim win. somone back me up on this

to the point for the thread. i rank him pretty highly around 12 or 13. but lists are only peoples prefrences so 20 or below i dont find any probs with.

i really enjoy watching him. has a fantastic style, fast hands and a bouncey little guy with that big left hook. the left hook that stopped moore was horendous, also sparking cooper is pretty amazing to with a lead right cross.
also i dont belive he is as small as we make him out to be he was massivly broad shouldered. just short and small in stature.i heard that in new york when he turned pro alot of hype was on him. next ray robinson is what garfield quoted.

    olympic gold medalist.
youngest world heavywieght champ (at the time)
2 time world heavyweight champ (1st ever)
good resume and didnt get the right decision in his later career
