Bill1234,Michael Moorer wasn't regarded as a bum at the time.I stick with Foreman.I didn't claim he was the best stylist.

I never said Moorer was a bum, I think Foreman's win over him is overrated though.

I do know what you mean Bill, but the fact is he beat the reigning linear titleist at a totally unbelievable age. Unimaginable. He was getting well and truly outboxed and some consider it a lucky punch, but he still acheieved the unachievable, or certainly something never achieved before. A real fairytale. I understand your thoughts tho.

I personally don't think that this win can be viewed as an overrating.

Michael Moorer was a full sized heavyweight ( despite his prior lightheavy background ), and in his 20's. He was unbeaten 35-0, and coming of a win over the real deal. Foreman was some 45 years old, and managed to knock the lineal champion into next year. I remember watching this bout, and taking a break to go have a cigarette, when my friends yeld " holy ****!". I rushed back, only to see Moorer lying on the canvas bleeding from the mouth. Later, I watched the replays and saw a barage, that was no more a fix, then my courtship with my own wife. Years later, I viewed a program on HBO, entitled " legendary nights ". Moorer was interviewed, and bitterly said as if talking to Foreman, " don't try and make it sound like you weren't lucky ". Well, I have to say something to Moorer, you were the one who was lucky. From the standpoint that you weren't permanantely disabled.

Foreman made history that night, and it was neither a lucky event, nor one that should be considered an overrating.

Exactly. I consider it semi-lucky, no punch is 100% lucky, because the person always means to throw it. But I feel Foreman lucked out the Moorer was too stupid to realize what everyone else saw, Foreman was setting him up that round. IMO if Moorer wasn't stupid that round and started to get sloppy and leaving him self open, Foreman doesn't win the title. I also feel Foreman's come back is overrated, but thats another story...

Good post, but Foreman didn't hit Moorer that hard. He landed a good, flush shot, but lets be real, it wasn't like the right that Shavers decked Holmes with, or the left hook Cooper decked Ali with. It was more of a punch that will daze you, and make you back and be careful the rest of the round. IMO Moorer was more surprised than anything about the punch, and thats why he didn't get up. He was startled and hurt.

    Bill,

Moorer had to get something like 20+ stiches in his face as a result of that combination. If you think that punch was simply startling than anything else, then I strongly suggest you watch the fight ( again if ever before ). Foreman kicked Moorer's ass that night, and I doubt that very many fighters would have rebounded from that combination.

Thats bull ****. Foreman was getting his ass kicked until he landed that punch. Ok, so Moorer needed stitches, not something uncommon when you get cut.

Yeah Moorer was slamming away at Foreman alright. I told you I saw the fight. Precisley why I stepped away for smoke, figuring that Moorer would easily wrap it up with a one sided decision. But that didn't happen. Moorer got pounded, even if it was just within the course of a few seconds in contrast to what happende over the previous ten rounds.

I would have said nailed, but I'm just getting rediculously picky here.

Good list, but what's the logic?

Resume-wise Liston really doesn't have all that much...Williams, Machen, Patterson x2. Certainly not enough to put him at 6...but then again, Lewis doesn't have **** for a resume, either.

Old Holyfield x2 ( counting the draw) and flat-out ancient Tyson don't mean **** in my book.
