I'm gonna say I see him two ways:
#1) the way the great Manny steward (may he rest in peace) saw him during Ricky Hatton fight:" it's too late for Jose Luis Castillo to become something great."

And this way: he was an contemporary AND atg: with transferable skills from the Floyd fights (he gave him fits) and to the legendary story that he was Julio Cesar Chavez number one sparring partner (iron sharpens iron) he's cut from that clothe. AND his epic duo of fights with Diego (r.i.p.) Corrales. Because many people see Diego as a great which he is, so jlc is from that clothe, he went through a awesome amount of punishment to round out part one. I believe part 2 was a ko win for Jose (and the third fight never materialized because of the tragic road accident).

So for these reasons he is great:
Has a claim to fame beating Floyd unofficially
    Beat the great Diego Corrales
Was the number one sparring partner for JCC senior.

Heck that is enough to be ranked in the top 100. Not many boxers achieve that kind of status.

I liked it, Mike. Castillo could fight, many mexicans became more famous than him, but he is the guy that gave Mayweather his best fight. Should be more talked for that.

Yes indeedy. Imagine if he looked like Oscar de la Hoya? And Oscar looked like him? In the looks department they say beautiful people get treated better... Oh well not trying to say too much, just that they couldn't really capitalize over his fame in the looks department lol. Still a good guy, looks are skin deep lol. Just imagine though, Jose with a bunch of female fans!!! That would be epic.lol marketability/ drawing power etc.

If I was a boxer I would never pick opponents that were ugly, they got nothing to lose.

I scored the first Mayweather fight in Jose’s favor, only by a point so I don’t consider it a robbery but I had him winning. He also had the two fights that he split with Corrales. I felt Jose was the better man in those fights, and as great as Diego’s comeback was, in the first fight, he did get a couple of breaks with the mouthpiece. He also beat Stevie Johnson and Casamoyer.
Rough and tumble fighter with ton of heart. Real real good just short of great.

At the moment I thought Tony Weeks called a early stoppage.

    Positives:
    1.The series with Stevie
    2. The loses to Mayweather
    3. Casamayor W
    4. The loss to Corrales in arguably the best fight ever.
    5. Supporting cast wins over Lazcano, Julio Diaz, and Ngoudju

    Negatives:
    1. Missing 135 by a grotesque amount in the Corrales fight and stopping him in a fight that shouldn’t have happened.
    2. Missing weight for the third fight, ruining the chance to redeem himself and pissing off everyone.
    3. The Hatton loss.

It’s as good as plenty of lower tier hof fighters’ resumes.

Castillo was kind of spent by the time Hatton fought him. The wars had took its toll on him.
