Where do you rank Pac in the ATG list? 1-10 11-20 21-30 31-40 41-50 Outside the top 50 Please vote on the poll. Thank you. Please post a brief explanation if you like also. :bbb
Pacquiao has cracked my top 20. These rankings are obviously subjective and ultimately mean nothing. The important thing is that Pacquiao has proven himself as a truly great fighter who can be mentioned alongside anyone.
I can see him argued a lot of places. I'd put him around thirty. Not sure about 21-30 or 31-40. But around there. My problem is even the greatest modern fighters are hard to gauge against the old-timers, because of the number of fights, change of round limits and just generally gentler way they have to go, hard as the sport is anyway.
Top 10-30 ... a naturaly lightweight or super feather taking on and beating up all the welterweights is ****ing amazing, a win over Floyd would put him top 10 at the least IMO. His resume at welterweight is better than Floyd's and Floyd has been that weight for like 5 years!
This is the top 30 of Ring Magazine's 80 best fighters of the last 80 years back in 2002. 1. Sugar Ray Robinson 2. Henry Armstrong 3. Muhammad Ali 4. Joe Louis 5. Roberto Duran 6. Willie Pep 7. Harry Greb 8. Benny Leonard 9. Sugar Ray Leonard 10. Pernell Whitaker 11. Carlos Monzon 12. Rocky Marciano 13. Ezzard Charles 14. Archie Moore 15. Sandy Saddler 16. Jack Dempsey 17. Marvin Hagler 18. Julio Cesar Chavez 19. Eder Jofre 20. Alexis Arguello 21. Barney Ross 22. Evander Holyfield 23. Ike Williams 24. Salvador Sanchez 25. George Foreman 26. Kid Gavilian 27. Larry Holmes 28. Mickey Walker 29. Ruben Olivares 30. Gene Tunney I don't agree with a lot of the placements, but it's a passable list. One could make an argument for sticking Manny in the mid-20's there.
I could easily make a case for him being higher than Marciano & Dempsey, so going by that list top 15. You could also make a case for him being higher than Joe Louis, depends what criteria you are using and how highly you rate the Schmelling's & Baer's. To me they are nothing but top contenders in the division, I wouldnt class them as ATG's or even HOF'ers but due to them being involved in very high profile fights in a very glamorous division back when boxing was huge, their greatness is amplified.
I like Ring but that's a pretty poor list. If I was only including these fighters, Manny would probably be top 15.
