Yeah, I saw ATG and started looking for Fitz right away... I think it may be because I was reading a Bert Sugar list recently and he had Fitz back at 66.

That seemed weird for me, especially from Sugar who tends to love older fighters.

Honestly I am close to putting Fitz in my top 5, a fighter that walked around at middleweight and beat the heavyweight champ with a body shot..... You can't get much greater than that.

Bobby Fitz was a monster. A massive puncher at around 160 that knocked out fighters that outweighed him by anywhere from 20 to 40, or sometimes more, pounds. 5 of his losses came after the age of 37, and another prior to that was a DQ. I think against Sharkey, if I remember correctly.

While he did have his fair share of placeholders on his resume, he also got in the ring with Corbett, Sharkey, O'Brien, Choynski, Jeffries, and Johnson.

Without a doubt he'd definitely be in my top 20 of all time. I'd actually have to make a list to see exactly where he falls in that top 20.

    I think you are correct...

I also remember reading that it was a bogus DQ, Wyatt Earp was the ref I think... People speculated that Earp had money in the fight.

I'd put him between 20-30, if not a little lower. There have only been a couple of modern greats who I would consider even in the top 50 ATG.
Too many greats over the years.
Pacquiao wasn't even recognizable to the casual fan until a couple of years ago. Lets say he wasn't as popular as he is today, lets say there wasn't any hype around him, but his resume was still the same...would some people on this website still be voting him into the top 10 ATG list...i'd probably go for no.
I'm only using Pacquiao as an example, I could use this theory on any of the other modern greats. He is undoubtedly a future HOFer, and ATG.

This fight with Clottey did not gain Pacman any ATG points. His last 4 fights have been good but still all those guys had recent losses.

I don't think that is a bad comment. I think Duran is overrated. I think Duran warrants top 25-30, so if Pacman replaces him that is reasonable. Pacman beat great fighters and Duran only beat one in Leonard, and then Ray easily outpoints Duran. Duran never knocked out a great.

I guess that all depends on how high you have Duran...
