You forgot that Dempsey also worked on a farm like a mule and became a hobo at young age without food or any place to sleep unlike Sonny who went to live with his mom.

Liston had a place to sleep and eat while Dempsey hadn't, he fought for food and place to sleep while Liston was a leg breaker and a thief that used to rob people.

Dempsey fought to survive unlike Liston.

been identified as anything but a typical American,either in speech or appearance.

Your argument about life being tougher for mixed Native and Irish folks than for black
people in the periods that you mentioned is not only dubious but completely academic.I repeat,
there is no way that Dempsey would have been identified as anything but an all-American boy.

Do you really think that Liston,at the age of only thirteen years old ,running away to escape his brutal
father really had an easier life than Dempsey who elected to leave his family home as a young adult ?

one fight against men who would make Marty Marshall look like an all-time great by comparison.
