History is littered with great achievements and inventions: moon landing, sending man to space, discovering fire and electricity among some of them. How does winning Super 6 stack up against them under the patronage of CSAC and Jack Reiss?
andre ward won it easily and proved he is the best 168 fighter in the world but it was meant to be a tournament where all the fighters fought home and away to even up the disadvantages of fighting on the road froch had to fight kessler in denmrk and ward in america. i forget where the abraham fight took place / nuetral ground somewhere. kessler traveled direll and taylor pulled out but ward was and is the best fighter of the lot . since then about 2011 he has had 1 meaningfull fight in 5 years and needs to step it up.
I don't rate that achievement at all, really. Ward was, is so much better than every fighter in the s6. The 2nd best and wards toughest fight would have been dirrell, who beat froch handily yet was robbed. That fight was competitive but truly one sided. Froch won maybe 2 rounds, don't remember which 2 but he had 2 that should've been his and any other round given to him was given to him off the premise that he did better than the other rounds. Andre v Andre was truly the only fight that mattered in the entire s6, and it didn't happen. I forget if AA v Andre was in the s6 or after, because that took Andre mentally out of the sport. Andre is still trying to recover from that. He got his groove back in his last fight, a fight it had him by 1 round, no robbery but the wrong guy got the decision. I think it was degale, and he should had been able to destroy degale but he got caught and had a flash kd or 2 but really won just about every round he wasn't kd in. He should be chasing that rematch full force but I don't think he's in it like his far less talented bro, less talented but mentally in it
It's one of those events that seemed as though it was ushering in a brave new dawn, at the vanguard of progress, but time was quick to sweep cruelly under the carpet of insignificance. Like the invention of the minidisc, or the works of Sigmund Freud.
How many replacements did they have to add after the tourney began? Why did one guy never leave home? Kinda took away the specialness of it, TBH.
Significance of S6 will go up in the future and will be more appreciated like inventing the internet and nuclear power.
lets see...win super 6 or defend your wbc title, that was handed to you, against Jorge heiland....hmmmm...tough choice I must admit though...stopping willie Monroe jr. was better than the wheel being invented
Not very highly in my point of view. By the end of it had all got a bit messy and the guy who everybody thought was the best at the start of it proved to be the best at the end of it.
Ward earned mega props. If this was a more famous division, the winner would get more acclaim. One of boxing best accomplishments in the past ten years.
Great accomplishment. What most people don't remember was that Ward was basically an unknown and was given little chance to win. The clear favorites were Abraham and Kessler. The fact that he pretty much dominated that tournament when no one gave him a chance was huge.
