Of course, but you don't need to swing from the fences to get the most out of your power. Wlad punches harder now than he ever has.
I guess the only way to fully ascertain that would have been to fight him once in 2000 and again in 2015. Glad I never did.
name me another heavyweight who ktfo a guy with a 6inch left hook at the end of 12th round.......... wlad-thompson
I think you're talking about Chambers. And that was already about 5 years ago and against a man who was dwarfed by him in size.. Wlad still hits like a truck and its virtually impossible to measure actual power from one stage in a fighter's career to another. The one thing I have noticed however is that more men have either taken him the distance or gone more rounds with him in recent years. What does that mean? I don't know. Could be that he's facing more durable opponents, but then again maybe not. Pulev was stopped early partially due to his wreckless approach.. And Leapai? well.... He's Leapai. Wlad decked Povetkin some 4 times and had him in all sorts of trouble, yet couldn't finish him. Alexander was there for the taking.. another poster named "Tommy the hat" and I were texting each other back and forth during that fight and agreed that if we were the ref in that bout we would have stopped it.. Not sure that Povetkin would have hung around with the Wlad of 10 years ago.
I doubt it. By 2005 Klit had been working with Steward for a while and had patched up a lot of issues, on top of also still being around 28 years old and in the peak shape of his life. He showed some vulnerabilities against Peter, but Sam was a bull and hit like a truck. He still got outboxed and Wlad took his best.
Povetkin is a cannier operator than Peter, and hits pretty hard himself. Wlad now--under Banks--is the best blend of his earlier gung-ho self and the measured Steward trained version.
I don't see him as being better at 38 than he was at 29 or 30. If anything else he's the same but not improved. He's relying a lot more on his holding tactics than ever before and having more and more difficulty finishing fighters who don't play right into his hands the way that Pulev did. Povetkin got his ass kicked and I don't see anything that he did in that fight which leads me to believe that he'd beat any version of Klit except maybe the one who lost to Sanders and Purity.
He held against Povetkin, didn't against Wach or Pulev much. Has he ever held more than he did against Ibragimov? I don't think he's 'better', I think he's the best blend of his two styles he has ever been.
I haven't seen Ibragimov vs Klit since it happened 7 years ago, but I seem to remember iggy running all over the place and refusing to engage. But fair enough on your comment about the blend of his two styles.
I think Wlad just wants to win. I think he does want to do so in a fan friendly fight. It's a balancing game, because he doesn't want to lose, but wants people to like him and watch him for the good of the sport. I do think if he really wanted to that he could have finished AP. I think we will see a more menacing Wlad against Jennings and whoever he fights after since he is on HBO. Jennings will get knocked out and he will be the nth fighter with an undefeated record that Wlad demolishes.
I agree. I think Wlad has beaten some 14 or 15 unbeaten in his career. That's gotta be approaching some kind of record for a heavyweight champion.
He is as good a two handed power puncher as any fighter ever .. he is just super cautious because of that weak chin .. the man has one punch ko power w either hand ..
Life-altering, and not in a good way. Forget, for a moment, the in-ring knockouts. Just sift through the thousands of posts of fallout around these boards, all thanks to Mr. Klitschko. This tyrant has wrecked the psyches of people he's never even met, let alone punched. That shouldn't be possible with his listed reach.
