I personally rate both men extremely highly. Both among my top 40 pound-for-pound greats, and I've flirted hard with the idea of placing McFarland in the top 20.

Driscoll is one fighter I really do admire and rate very highly. One of the best fighters I have seen on film.

I'm not too sure about McFarland never really studied him, like Flea says tell us more.

Beat many of the best LW's, WW's, and MW's of his era despite only being a LW himself, including the likes of Jack Britton, Freddie Welsh, Owen Moran, Kid Herman, Benny Yanger, Matt Wells, Leach Cross, Young Erne, Ray Bronson, Jimmy Britt, Harlem Tommy Murphy, Lockport Jimmy Duffy, Cyclone Johnny Thompson, and a NC with Mike Gibbons that many believe McFarland to have won, though the bout itself grossly underwhelmed. All of this while going over 100 fights undefeated aside from a loss very early in his career that was until recently shrouded in mystery. Maybe the best fighter to never fight for a belt alongside Charley Burley (considering Langford did get his shot at the Colored Title).

It's debatable if McFarland's early loss ever even occurred. I believe the Gibbons fight is on film.

Very highly ,I have seen two fights of each of them ,both looked extremely well rounded and capable, especially Driscoll .Two ATG's ,an expression I don't use lightly.

I have McFarland considerably higher, perhaps erroneously.
