I rate Lennox # 11 all time. some consider my ranking of him too low, but certainly having him in the top 5 is preposterous.
1. Ali 2. Louis 3. Holmes 4. Marciano 5. Lewis 6. Foreman 7. Frazier 8. Holyfield 9. Johnson 10. Dempsey But we're talking very thin margins between each guy. I think only Ali and Louis are watertight at the top for me (and Louis is a guy that I've become more impressed with over the passage of time). Definitely should be in everyone's top 10 at worst, though. IMO of course.
I've re-thought my top 10 ranking list, and Lewis now comes in at #6. 1. Ali 2. Louis 3. Holmes 4. Holyfield 5. Foreman 6. Lewis 7. Marciano 8. Tyson 9. Liston 10. Dempsey H2H, Lewis at #3 and Tyson at #1.
Great list. Hollyfield is to high (plenty of losses) and Holmes is to high for me too (competition), plus, why Dempsey rather than Johnson? They were champ for a similair amount of time but Johnson had more defences, his pre-title comp was better and he was a more active champ. Nice list though.
Anywhere from 7 to 15. It's hard to come up with a definitive list (esp. If you want to consider old-timers like Jeffries, Johnson & Langford), but some of the fighters I'd definitely put in front of him are : Ali, Louis, Dempsey, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes. And there may be others. Lewis defended the LINEAR title 6 times in his first reign, and 2 times in his second. And he was UNDISPUTED (in real terms, even though he dumped a couple of belts) for most of these fights. That's a decent reign. But I dont see why it shouldn't be acknowledged that he slipped up badly when he lost - by KO - to the very ordinary Hasim Rahman. And as people point out, this didn't happen AFTER his peak and heyday, this happened in the midst of it. Still, it's no reason to exclude him from greatness, and if somebody has him as high as number 3 or even 1 or 2 then that's fine with me. And if someone has him as low as 20 then that's fine too. On my personal list (when I get round to deciding it's finished) he'll settle between 7 and 15.
My list looks something like this: 1. Louis 2. Ali 3. Lewis 4. Holmes 5. Foreman 6. Marciano 7. Frazier 8. Holyfield 9. Liston 10. Ezzard Charles
Perhaps so, but I think that high a placing (at HW) is to generous (he's legit Top 3 ever at LHW though). Still each to their own I suppose. Personally speaking I have Tyson at around 7th or 8th, his devestating late 80's title reign alone warrants such a placing despite what came afterwards. Top 5 would definitely be overrating him, although by the same token outside the Top 10 is a tad low.
Charles probably is underestimated as a HW champ, but for me the case for having him ranked above Tyson on an all time HW list is almost unimaginable...i'd like to see it actually!
