Definitely Foreman, Frazier, Holyfield. Marciano, Liston, Dempsey, Tyson, Johnson and Wladimir Klitschko all very possibly.
Anything from 3-15 is okay? Lewis from #11-15 to me is a misplacement. I get it some people gotta have Johnson, Dempsey and Marciano higher than Lewis.
In terms of accomplishments I would have Lewis top 5. In terms of H2H, Lewis could very well be number 1 overall. The only HWs I favour over him in an H2H sense are Louis, Ali & Holmes, and I only favour these 3 over him very slightly. A case could be made for Lewis to beat these 3 H2H. Lewis had a formidable combination of size, skill, power, athleticism, ring intelligence and he beat a lot of punchers, despite being stopped twice. For me, Lewis' only significant occasional flaw was complacency which I believe contributed to both of his defeats - he was never complacent when he felt "threatened".
Ali avenged his losses when he was in his prime. Not avenging a loss to Holmes or Berbick when he was already showing early signs of Parkinson's isn't relevant. Lewis wouldn't be #1 even if he were unbeaten. Who did he beat that was as good as Foreman or Frazier that Ali beat? Even Lewis's own trainer admitted that Holyfield and Tyson were past it when Lewis beat them. His level of competition, while good, isn't even close to Ali's. This is like ranking Marciano at #1 because he was unbeaten. No way.
In terms of accomplishments, he is quite high. In terms of h2h, extremely overrated. I wouldn't favour him over prime versions of Holyfield and Tyson, let alone Holmes, Foreman or Ali. In any H2H matchup vs an ATG, his chin will always be susceptible to a one punch ko. Yes, he had a solid chin overall, but no other heavyweight champion (great one) was put away twice with one punch. Not Holmes, not Ali, not Foreman, not even Frazier. No one. And Rahman and McCall weren't exactly the hardest hitters in the world. How many top guys did Rahman actually tko or ko? How about McCall? I actually have Lewis #6 on my list. His accomplishments are impressive but people overrate him heavily h2h. In terms of h2h, his size and propensity to take a breather during fights actually places him at a severe disadvantage vs guys like Holmes for example.
He got most of the best guys he fought at the right time and performed underwhelming against past prime Holyfield compared to Bowe who looked great against the best Holyfields that ever entered the ring. Imo , Lewis would take a loss to Bowe around 92/93.
Right! When he faced guys he maybe thought of as dangerous, he got him self in killer mode. He took Mccall and Rahman lightly and imo Mercer.
