When he fought Curry and the year after.. By the time he fought Starling he was on the way down. One thing about him and Starling, had he tried to hit Starling on the top of the head he might have had more reaction. He rocked Starling with that punch..
I agree,Fergy. If Lloyd had still had the form from the Don Curry fight,he stops Breland late on. I would even have given him a shot of outpointing Marlon Starling.
Absolutely Stevie. The Curry fight Honeyghan was on fire, and focused. I wish the top Welter s of the day had faced THAT Honeyghan!.
Good post. All new info to me. Knew that L H liked to party. Didn't know he was this powerfully drawn to the nightlife. An unfortunate addiction for a prizefghter!
He was a one-hit wonder. As such, I rate him below Bananarama, which had “Cruel Summer” and “Venus,” so two hits. This content is protected
You and me both, one of our poorest champs, got lucky with a weight drained Curry, and was average after that, also a thoroughly unlikable character, on the panel show AQOS when asked to choose a number, no please, no thank you, went to see him train at a gym near the Spurs ground when he was champ, pulled up a chair at the back of the room, settled down to enjoy the workouts, when Bobby Neil approached and asked who I was, just a fan I explained, he went back to Honeygan told him what I had said, then Neil came back and Lloyd is not happy, and orders you to **** off. Pig of a man. stay safe guys.
Mark mate, Curry may have been prime, but only in his age, he was a dead man walking the weight he had to lose was colossal, well remember reading where he was in saunas for hours, then when he came out was flayed with hot towels, prob any WW of the time would have a good chance of beating that Curry. stay safe buddy.
Not for me , that would be Ted Kid Lewis, would have Jones above him for sure, Stracey would hunt him down, Rodderick, Charles, even a Brook would run him close IMO. stay safe guys.
Very good fighter who was given an opportunity to fight for the title and seized it by the horns which cannot ever be taken away. Regardless of the condition of Curry Honeyghan went into that fight with no fear and performed good. The Blocker bout is underrated win as Blocker was a 6'1 welterweight who would latter win the title twice. Also think his KO of Rossi gets overlooked. In terms of welterweight champions from his country he's definitely in the top 10. His upset win over Curry was one of the greatest upsets pulled off by a British fighter in the history of the sport. I don't think he was a great fighter but was not too far off. I curious as to who people would pick in a fight vs Honeyghan vs Khan and Brook.
