Where Do You Rate Roy Jones Jr In The All Time Rankings At Light-Heavyweight

Again on the better competition thing I cant say that he did. Experience going rounds is way more important to a fighter coming up than a one round KO over a name opponent.
They did have different styles, but Jones improved significantly as well, as proof over his multiple titles in multiple weight divisions, a win over James Toney, and being undisputed LH champion and HW champion. We dont know how good Hopkins got as a middleweight because he never faced another great middleweight besides Jones Jr. Beating up on Tito Trinidad didnt show it in my book.

 

No but it shows that he was already a great talent who had the ability to wipe out established, durable title challengers with ease. And he had gone 10 hard rounds with Jorge Castro, one of the toughest fighters of all time and a future title holder.

Many observers thought that the Jones who fought in the Olympics could have already won a title right there and then. As McGrain has said, he didn't need the experience.

Near his best, physically he was never better than '93 at 28years old, technically he was near his best but would get better technically while he detoriated in terms of speed and workrate. Hell Foreman was technically better in old age too was he better in his late 30s :hey

Hopkins was past prime before he was facing Tito

Hopkins was taking risks but he was often getting countered for making them

 

He'd look like **** against Jones at any age because Jones was better, Jones would make Monzon and Hagler look like **** too. I actually see Jones having a chance to beat him now despite being shot to pieces

 

You must thinking fighting 30seconds a round is superior to fighting 3miniutes a round

 

Hopkins did all those throughout his career, how much BHOPs have you seen? Hopkins was clearly faster/higher workrate and a better puncher as younger fighter, the other aspects he may have improved on but can you imagine a young BHOPs running and throwing 10 punches a round in a fight? No ****ing way he would

So in some ways he was a **** load better when younger, in other ways he wasn't quite as complete, its a close call, BUT NO FIGHTERS DONT FIGURE OUT HOW TO SUDDENLY BOX AFTER 30, OLD HABITS DIE HARD IN BOXING, YOU DO WHAT UVE ALWAYS DONE SINCE UVE BEEN 13

 

Nones doubting Jones was a super talent. Noones doubting that Hopkins got better. What I do doubt is that Hopkins improved enough to ever beat Jones, or that Jones didnt improve himself, by the evidence that I pointed out in many previous posts. Thats it. I dont think Jones Jr fought "great" LH's either. He fought a couple former greats there, but not current ones, but he did fight a great at middleweight, and a future great middleweight, and a solid group of LH's, and not such a bad heavyweight as proof by his accomplishments.
If Hopkins would have followed Jones up to super middle and LH and put himself in a position to fight Jones maybe we would have found out how good he really became.

 

Both would've whooped the **** out of Monzon, Hagler and Robinson at that age :yep
