Where Do You Rate Roy Jones Jr In The All Time Rankings At Light-Heavyweight

    I was referring to which of the two was better prepared before their title fight to actually fight for a world title. Hell yes he got better at middleweight overall, no disputing that.

    Hopkins didn't work out how to "suddenly box" after 30.

    He got better with experience.

    It's entirely obvious and undeniably true.

    Hence, he was not at his peak when he matched Roy Jones or in 1993 generally. This is an easy one.

    Apparently there is!

    Anyway, I would say Jones was closer to his peak (though not at it, by any means) when the two met, that would be the bottom line for me.

    Do you think he improved enough at middleweight to go up to LH when Jones Jr was at his best and beat him?

    I think that Jones should always be favoured over Hopkins, but that fight does interest me.

    I believe the last time it was mooted was right before Jones fought Tarver the first time? That would have been interesting for sure.

    Just taking a look at that fight. It took a prime Hopkins 12 rounds to stop former welterweight Tito Trinidad, he went 12 with Joppy who Tito destroyed, 12 with Keith Holmes, and 9 with ODLH (who held his own in the first half with speed)before he bailed. Taylor gave him fits using speed as well. Besides Taylor, these werent the biggest middleweights either and most small ones.
    Even Robert Allen who was short but powerful was able to put Hopkins on his ass and almost out in the first fight.
    I just cant see someone who isnt super strong or a big punching threat, regardless of their skills, outboxing or outmuscleing Jones, who toyed with big LH's who almost always came into the ring much bigger than him.

    Hopkins certainly isn't wearing Jones down like he did with Tito or Oscar.

    If he KO'd him it would be with one shot, like Johnson and Tarver. Or at least, sending him to ***** street with one punch and following up.

    Jones was a little more sturdy in his prime. He took a perfectly timed straight lefthand from Lou DelValle that dropped him like a sack of rocks and he shook it off pretty well. I dont think Hopkins could hurt Jones in his prime.

    I do.

    But we can agree it would be much harder to get to him, for sure.

    Once Jones starts to slow down, the fight gets much more interesting.

    Hopkins looked like he was in his prime between 96-02.

    Jones prime was 94-03


    Oh yeah before he fought Hopkins, Jones had a good win and good name Jorge Castro.

    Bah...you can have him 9 or 10 if you want. I just think he is better suited to 11 or 12. End of thread for me.

    Hopkins himself openly states that after the first fight with Mercado he woke up and turned the corner in a big way. Post Mercado his dedication was 110% and he was one serious boxer.

    In you mind perhaps, no where else...

    It's not hate. There is lots of realism involved in the classic forum, posters who are in professions related to boxing and have many years of experience, make rational rather than subjective and emotional arguments, care about the historical development of boxing and the greats that paved the path to what we have today. So, yes the classic forum is totally different than the general - thank God.
