The problem with this question is what do you define as skillset? Then you're going to have argument about who he deployed that skillset against. Then Mante (Lora) is going to arrive and set the whole thread back to square one anyway. Then Powerpuncher is going to arrive and set the thread back to the negative as well as hijacking it to talk about Roy Jones. But I wish you luck, i'll be watching.

Where do you rate his skillset?

I think his skillset is up there pretty good with all of them. I think when people comment on Mayweather negatively, they fail to realize that he was a small man looking up as he fought at welterweight where he seems to be criticised the most, but overall hes a complete fighter that maybe lacks a bit of killer instinct and has more of a safety defensive first approach, but thats his style.
I also believe if Mayweather wasnt such an ass he would be held in far higher regard with most knowledgeable fans because technically we dont see too many fighters come around with his skillset. For a guy who is undefeated through five or six weight classes hes often sold very short around here.
Mayweather is a full grown welter now and I expect a more offensive explosive performance from him in the Mosley fight.

I agree with all of that except for the Mosley fight prediction. I expect him to do what he normally does and play very safe and cagey and potshot...Unless by some miracle Mosley can force him to let everything go...in which case I favor Mosley to win. But I seriously doubt that's going to happen anyway.

Thats what I think. I think Mosley will make him fight more with his strength to push the fight, and Mayweathers going to put a serious ass whooping on him and stop him late. Mosleys a great fighter himself, but he doesnt have much of a chance outboxing Floyd, and I think Floyd is physically stronger now than weve seen him in the past.

Mosley muscled Margarito. I don't think it really matters how much stronger he is, Mosley can handle him if he can get in there.

Well thats the trick. Mayweather is a lot harder to get close to than Margarito especially when your short and dont possess a very good jab.

Somewhere below Manny Pacquiao's and Pongsaklek Wonjongkam's. Maybe on par with Koki Kameda's. He's basically a top tier black guy, better than the whites, pick em with the hispanics, but just not quite up there with the elite asians.

No doubt. I think Mayweater will win dull, personally. Sugar is mad overated now, he's old old, still really good, but he's not gonna beat Mayweather.

Yeah, I can't see it happening at all myself but then again, Emanuel Augustus forced him to let loose offensively like very few and as highly durable as Augustus was, when Floyd had his back up against it, he beat seven shades of shite out of him. But I don't know if Floyd has that kind of thing in him as a welterweight against a guy of Shane's durability. The only way I can see it is if Shane's old skin gets puffy and the eyes swell up, maybe Naz calls it. But that's tough for me to picture too.

all good analysis. i guess for me it depends on the mentality that mosley brings in the ring and how mayweather responds to it.

if the confident, focused and determined mosley that showed up in his last fight is there...who knows. if the other mosley...the hit and hug, reluctant mosley of the wright/mayorga fights shows up he could get destroyed and stopped on damage

essentially i think mayweather can dominate playing it safe, as most do. but if he's looking to impress, he could go for the gold. if he goes for the knockout and mosley is at his peak again, shane has a chance. but that is relying on two unlikely situations

He has great skills, he's pretty well rounded, on both the offensive and defensive end, but to me he is a little bit mechanical and predictable in his movements. His speed and reflexes allow him to get away with it, but against great fighters, even that won't save him more often than not.

His best asset, as far as his skills go, is his precise punching. One of the most precise shot pickers ever.

In the 3 fights he has had against his best opponents, Castillo and Oscar, I thought his skillset was pretty decent. Nothing spectacular or special at all.

In other fights against clearly overmatched opponents such as Gatti and N'Dou, I thought his skillset looked supernatural.

All in all, he has very good skills, but he has yet to emphatically dominate a top level opponent and so prove those skills as being of the very top level.

Will he do so on May 1st? I'm starting to think he will...
