Exactly. IMO, his defensive skillset is in the top 10...

 

It is, and really the most common thought would be that Floyd just tries to win safely and comfortably, but, I think Floyd cares more about his legacy than what he leads people to believe, and heres a chance for him to silence a lot of his critics with a good explosive performance. He already hears the "Shane is old" comments, and a safety first decision win is going to do nothing for him in most peoples mind.

 

Floyd doesn't have the power to hurt Shane, not at all. I think he'll win handsomely on points by backpedalling and flicking out punches against his older opponent. But I do think it will still be a pretty impressive win because I expect Floyd to take a wide UD, maybe 9-3, I don't think it'll be particularly close so Floyd will deserve credit for that even though it won't be the most emphatic/impressive performance on his part. I see this fight being much like Floyd-Castillo II, ie convincing on the cards yet strangely unsatisfying in reality.

 

What do you mean by skillset? A swarmer needs a different one than a counterpuncher. How do you compare the skillsets of these styles?

 

I think a lot of people will share your opinion if he doesnt stop him. Mayweather is fully aware of this. I think if Mosley fights like Corrales did against Mayweather trying to foolishly press, he will get stopped.

 

Among the best. He is not always the most exciting boxer and that might confuse some people and cause them to under rate him. His speed and power are deceptively good. His best asset is his timing. His defense is not flashy, but in grneral he dose not get hit that much.

 

Shane won't fight like Corrales, because Shane will throw punches and not just wander around like a feeble, confused zombie. But even if Shane did keep plodding forward with his hands down, Floyd does not have the power at 147 to stop someone with the proven resistance of Shane Mosley, not even close. The fight will end in another dull UD for Floyd achieved by backpedalling, flicking out punches, and running the clock down. To some, this will rate as impressive, because Shane looked excellent against Margo and because at the end of the day, it wasn't a particularly close fight, as Shane couldn't counteract Floyd's evasive point-winning strategy. Others will say that we are still waiting for Floyd to engage a top class opponent, and emphatically dominate him and put him to the sword by utilizing the true maximum of his efforts and skills.

Mosley is a ****ing old man years past his prime.


Beating Margarito was great for his own legacy as a very good comeback win from years of relative B class performances, but it said more about Margarito than anything else, lets be honest.

If he beats Floyd it will be great for him and will also imo highlight mayweather not being a special fighter around this weight.

 

After re-watching Mosley vs Cotto recently, I see virtually no chance that Mosley can beat Mayweather. SSM looked great against Margarito because Margo's style and approach were perfect for him, but I'm sure you'll agree that fight doesn't hold much (if any) relevance to this one, considering that Margo and Floyd are pretty much polar opposites.

 

He is one of the most skilled fighters I have seen.

 

I honestly didn't think he had B class performances at all against Collazo and Cotto.

 

Considering how Margarito and Pacquiao dealt with Cotto, you don't think Mosley was B class against him??

Think of what the Mosley of 2000 would have done to Miguel Cotto... it wouldn't have been pretty or taken very long.

 

I don't rate him as highly as most, at least not as far as his inclusive ability/efficiency against high grade opposition is concerned. Technically he's pretty impeccable in many regards. Tactically the same can't be said, mainly due to his low workrate and the defensive counter-punching role he takes from a too often flat-footed/backing straight up stance. At the higher weights that wouldn't serve him well against suitable opposition, particularly the top swarmers and pressure fighters like Duran, Pryor, Chavez, and Beau Jack, among many others. At Super Feather I think he'd have handled himself well with pretty much anyone. He had a much better offensive workrate, along with being quicker on his feet and more capable physically compared to the crowd.

 

I'd love to see Mayweather fighting the prime Beau Jack I saw back in the 1940s..,Floyd would have been overwhelmed by the bolo's hooks, crosses, uppercuts, Beau Jack would have bombarded Mayweather,for the FULL [if needed], fifteen rounds...He , Floyd could only dodge a certain amount of bullets coming from a non-stop machine...Or what the murderous punching Ike Williams ,uncuffed, who I saw several times, would unleash on Floyd...Those tough days the FANS and public opinion dictated who the champions fought, and Floyd would have been in trouble then.....
