At this point of his career (Marquez), Im not sure any fight is doing much for his legacy as he's already past it and fighting at a weight class that doesn't really suit him. Unless he beats a good up and comer or solid fighter, one where he is legitimately the underdog, I don't think its really gonna matter that much.

Anyhow, I don't think Katsidis classifies as any of the above to do much for Marquez' legacy.

I'll be honest with you, I don't think it does much of anything. Katsidis is nothing special, imo.

Doesn't it help his legacy, the fact that he is fighting legitimate quality lightweights (no catch weight fights), when the weighclass does not really suit him?

He is taking on a Champion that is coming off a great KO win that is young and hungry... You know someone coming off back to back wins and that has a good chance to do what Diaz was close to almost accomplishing in the early rounds.

It moves him forward, he will be unifying belts if he wins... and it will put him a step further to face a 140 pound fighter..

The thing about taking on young lion champions is if you beat them they will say we was not good to begin with.

Right now the fight is at 50/50 with bookies and Boxing fans are saying JMM by demolition...

It will be a good fight by a great fighter.. JMM has been in top shape for a long time.

Something that none of the other Mexican Great were able to do.

JMM's only clear loss was to Mayweather and his losses to Norwood, John, and Pacquiao were all controversial. JMM is pushing close to 40 and a win over Katsidis wouldn't do much for him since Katsidis doesn't have any big wins yet.

JMM beat both of Katsidis conquerors and most likely will beat Katsidis too, but since JMM is on the downslide and Katsidis has been improving, maybe it will even out. JMM is most likely considered a top 10 ATG Mexican fighter.

Top 5 fighters are like Salvador Sanchez, Julio Cesar Chavez, Ricardo Lopez, Erik Morales, and Marco Antonio Barrera. I'd rank JMM in the top 10. A win ov er Katsidis is a solid win, but JMM's place is cemented.

    Barrera turned professional in 1989!!!!

    Marquez turned professional in 1993!!!

How many times do I have to say this until it computes?

Doesnt move him. JMM is several levels above Kat. Should be an exciting match though.

Marquez was supposed to beat Barrera, who put in one of his worst performances north of 126lbs. And yes, Marquez was very close to being prime, and would go on to beat the likes of Casamayor and Diaz whereas Barrera was all but done. "Oh, Marquez outlasted Barrera, how amazing". No, again, Barrera was a professional a good four years before Marquez was, and had many tough fights from 2000-2007 whereas Marquez first fought a world class fighter in 2003. Non-comparable!

It's just my opinion that if they met in their prime jmm still walks away with a w. Yes mab was on the decline I never said he wasn't and I never said jmm outlasted mab. I just said prime for prime skill for skill I think jmm wins this fight. But even in saying that I have no hate in you thinking otherwise in the end they are both two of my favorite fighters and I thank god I was around to see them fight.
