hard to judge really he spent most of his career in pancrease, had a short mma career because of injuries. I think Bas is a would have could have guy.....kind of like Frank Shamrock but were active during the UFC's dark days.
Assuming he was at 205 these days very well against strikers, but poorly against wrestlers, even though he had decent subs
He only fought a few fights in actual mma rules, majority were slap pancrase bouts with no punches to the head also thought he lost to randleman
Bas was a pioneer. Much like Ken and Frank. Plus he has a deep knowledge of martial arts. Shame Pancrase back then never allowed closed fist strikes as striking was his forte and he was one of the best in the world at it. That said i agree with the poster above. He definitely lost to Randleman.
H2H for his day he was a really good fighter especially with his striking, but with any of the top guys in the ufc today in his division he would have trouble.
I would rank him as a great HW. His career was ended due to injuries but u cant deny that the guy was definatly a world talent.
Bas would slaughter most UFC fighters today in the striking department. Some of these UFC strikers are a joke.
You have to rate someone on what they did not what they could do now bas did win hw title in the UFC even though iffy decision so tht helps him of I count pancrase top 15 if not then he's not top 20 he is one smartest fighters ever and if he stayed healthy would of been long time champ
