For me, as I have never done a atg 100, its hard to say. But I would say that he is in or around the 70 -80's. I mean, he is undefeated, 20+ defense's, best all time smw, and in the top 3 ever from britain. That makes him an atg 100. His record is not that different to B Hop's and Rocky M.
I am from UK and have not actually done a top 100 recently, to be honest though I definitely think I could come up with 100 fighters from all era's better than Joe.
The tired old national bias card being played by Pugilist - how new and strange and different and interesting. Yawn. I think The Ring magazine is American. I think they had Joe at #2 in their pound-for-pound rankings for a while. I'm sure they have a Filippino as their number 1 right now. And a Mexican at number 2. That would make it a top 3 with no Americans. In fact, I think there are only TWO Americans in their top 10. I'm also sure they placed Roberto Duran (Panama) 5th in their 80 Best Fighters Of The Past 80 Years, and had Monzon (Argentina), Jofre (Brazil), Arguello (Nicaragua) and Chavez (Mexico) in their top 20. It is simply a plain fact that the vast majority of great fighters of history were from the USA. It is not bias to say that, it's just a fact that shouldn't offend or upset anyone, nationality shouldn't matter, only the quality of the boxers themselves should. Don't you ever get tired talking bollocks? :smoke
At the very end, or maybe not quite on the list. And it is no disrepesct to Calzaghe, there simply have been many, many, many great fighters in boxing history. All-time I'd rank him around the Tszyu, Buchanan, Elorde range.
From his own era, I group together Calzaghe, Trinidad, Mosley, Winky, and Tszyu. I think they are a tier of fighters of similar greatness.
Here's the thing. I have Ricard Lopez in the55-65 bracket. Now, as Calzaghe achieved more or less than this little guy? Assuming he goes unbeaten, which is an astonishing achievemnt in boxing at title level, how high can be justified? I did a top 100 recently. He didn't make it. Since then he beat Hopkins in an SD. I'd have him between 95-110 I think should I re-do the list. But I think that a higher placing can be justified, and if he retires unbeaten he will move up a tier on my list.
Tito is my "top" of the tier, but I don't rank him as highly as Pac,MAB,Morales,Hopkins etc, so he stays in that tier for me.
