alright calm down, you shouldnt take things so literally, no need to get on the offensive.. some would prove to me some wouldnt! its a debate that could go on for hours let alone is ultimately subjective, your right I DONT KNOW ANY OF THEM because you keep threatening to post it rather than doing so,as i said il be glad to see it
I said you don't know MOST, not ANY. Why would you be on a boxing site if you didn't know any great fighters? I don't get what the big deal is. People said no he's not a top 100, you said you'd like to see these top 100, I said I could name them. You finally answered my question with the last part, and thank you for doing so. I've been planning on leaving for like the past 30 Min. I'll be back in about an hour and will post the names. You should prepare to be humbled. will continue around 9:00
All kidding aside, I have a hard time ranking fighters that are still active on an ATG list. If he were to quit today, he probably wouldn't be higher than 50. If he goes on to beat RJJ, Pavlik, Abraham, then Johnson, Tarver, Haye, and W.Klitschko, then he probably breaks into the top 3.
No, Calzaghe is not easily in the top 100. Here's a list of 120...just take The Ring's top 80 in 2002, and I added 40 more. I would not say that there's 20 that Calzaghe CLEARLY ranks higher than. Sugar Ray Robinson Henry Armstrong Muhammad Ali Joe Louis Roberto Duran Willie Pep Harry Greb Benny Leonard Sugar Ray Leonard Pernell Whitaker Carlos Monzon Rocky Marciano Ezzard Charles Archie Moore Sandy Saddler Jack Dempsey Marvin Hagler Julio César Chávez Eder Jofre Alexis Arguello Barney Ross Evander Holyfield Ike Williams Salvador Sanchez George Foreman Kid Gavilan Larry Holmes Mickey Walker Ruben Olivares Gene Tunney Dick Tiger Fighting Harada Emile Griffith Tony Canzoneri Aaron Pryor Pascual Perez Miguel Canto Manuel Ortiz Charley Burley Carmen Basilio Michael Spinks Joe Frazier Khaosai Galaxy Roy Jones, Jr. Tiger Flowers Panama Al Brown Kid Chocolate Joe Brown Tommy Loughran Bernard Hopkins Felix Trinidad Jake LaMotta Lennox Lewis Wilfredo Gómez Bob Foster Jose Napoles Billy Conn Jimmy McLarnin Pancho Villa Carlos Ortiz Bob Montgomery Freddie Miller Benny Lynch Beau Jack Azumah Nelson Eusebio Pedroza Thomas Hearns Wilfred Benitez Antonio Cervantes Ricardo Lopez Sonny Liston Mike Tyson Vicente Saldivar Gene Fullmer Oscar de la Hoya Carlos Zarate Marcel Cerdan Flash Elorde Mike McCallum Harold Johnson Sam Langford Floyd Mayweather Jr. Manny Pacquiao Shane Mosley Sam Langford Niccolino Locche Barbados Joe Walcott Jack Johnson Bob Fitzsimmons Terry McGovern Abe Attell Joe Gans Maxie Rosenbloom Johnny Kilbane Ted Lewis Tommy Ryan Freddie Welsh Kostya Tszyu Harry Wills Jack Britton James Toney Packie McFarland Winky Wright Holman Williams Eddie Booker Lloyd Marshall Marco Antonio Barrera George Carpentier Stanley Ketchel Luis Rodriguez Fritzie Zivic Erik Morales Juan Manuel Marquez Orlando Canizales George Dixon Ken Buchanan Esteban Dejesus Jimmy Bivins Matthew Saad Muhammad
appreciate the effort, good list and yes we could argue all night long,im well aware of the fighters and there legacies and they all do have a legit argument and merit to be considered,im not making an argument with you here nor see what your reference to being "humbled" was meant to mean, grebs about right, fitzsimmons should be top 20 etc what response do you want? i consider calzaghe along with others of his generation like oscar and tszyu etc as a legit case for top 100 where abouts though is too early to say, time will tell!
Well what the ****, Thread Stealer stole my planned post. 120, that's a nice list. I'd argue Calzaghe over Saad Muhammad, Canizales, maybe Locche or Zivic or Mosley, probably a few more, but not 20. to socrates, this got way out of hand, but my reaction was to your comment that Calzaghe easily makes the top 100. If your a big fan, I guess you could argue him to be around #95, but no higher. His career just doesn't stack up.
Sorry. I don't really have any set list. I just used that Ring list as a gauge and named some other guys who either are undoubtedly greater than Calzaghe, or whom you can reasonably argue are greater than him.
agree to disagree my man,and yes im a JC fan where i place him though is still something i have yet to decide, lets see if he fights pavlik, what kessler goes on to do,if he beats roy etc only time will tell,il will miss him as a force in the middleweights when he hangs em up thats for sure though.
Don't be sorry, I wasn't looking forward to doing it. Good idea to just copy RING's top 80, and a nice addition (especially going to 120).
