Seeing Kovalevs impressive win over Nathan Cleverly showed he was a lot faster than I had originally thought but will agree with Tony Bellew to an extent and say that his power masks a lot of his flaws (However I see him a lot less flawed than Bellew does)

But heres my personal opinions of where Cleverly goes from here onwards

Denis Grachev - Holds a questionable win over former Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight champion Zsolt Erdei and recently lost to SuperMiddleweight contender aswell as a close decision loss to former IBF Super middleweight champion Lucien Bute. Perfect comeback opponent

Allan Green - Recently won a RTD over Renan St Juste before a knockout loss to Mikkel Kessler, could be dangerous if Green lands but should Cleverly win by stoppage, would solidify him as a contender again

Beibut Shumenov - The incredibly inactive Shuemnov holds the WBA portion of the belt but how he has been able to hold onto it for so long without fighting is beyond me. Easily the weakest of the champions at 175

Tony Bellew Rematch - Depending on how Bellew does against the winner of Stevenson-Cloud it could be a potential unification and even if not then at least it would be an interesting rematch

Personally I believe Cleverly has the ability to win these bouts so long as his arrogance from the Kovalev fight doesnt resurface and would be a lot harder opposition than he is used to fighting but you have to question his heart after wanting to give up after only his first loss to a well known puncher who he very stupidly chose to drop his guard against rather than box

All of those would be respectable options, I'd add Zsolt Erdei, Chillemba as well or someone like Yusef Mack. After getting pummeled I wouldn't go back against Bellew immediately, that was a close rough fight (nearly even). Fighting a guy he was even with, if he's been diminished would almost certainly mean a loss.

I used to be like that. Think of Paul McCartney, Macca, then its all i's and e's baby.

    You'll get there.

I seriously cannot see him coming back. The moment I saw him come out in that camp ring entrance I knew he was crazy. Thats the only way to explain A. why he actively sought out boxings most dangerous puncher B. why he told everyone he would stop the Russian and C. why he thought it was acceptable to pitter patter and stand in front of the grim reaper in front of his own fans without a definitive gameplan.

Its a devastating loss, not phyiscally, but physiologically. He actually was convinced he could stand and trade with the big man without a strategy. What the **** were they doing for 8 weeks in training camp?

He goes on to be a better boxer. He must know now he has to develop his skill and craft and not take the gung ho approach.
If he changes his stlye to fight long and tall, stiffens his jab , throws a hard straight right and improves his footwork , he will become a far better version of his former self.

Cleverly is a very proud/arrogant, stubborn guy, so I see him taking a long lay-off after that humiliation, but it's for that very reason as well that I don't see him calling it quits and ending his career like that. Now we will truly see what he is made of deepdown, wether he can come back stronger or wether his ego has taken too much of a pounding after that.

Being brought down to earth now , while he's still young, will do him the world of good.

He needs to leave his father as a trainer and find someone who can get him to a new level of fighting.
I like Cleverly and it was sad to see him go out like that,he fought horrible,,no combinations,no jab,and he fought like he was 150 cm tall.

He did i picked him to win thinking he would box of the back foot and walk Kovalev onto shots, He cut Kovalev with the only solid shot he threw if he wanted to back him up he should of been on his chest the game plan was terrible

Precisely the reason you wouldnt want to see the fight is why I
mentioned him. he needs someone that can go rounds but likely
won't spark home. Maybe an ugly fight that his style would
    give him an advantage.

He should release a video of himself in studio recording a cover version of "Gonna Miss Him Now He's Gone".

  15. He can get some fights .. probably test some prospects in future .. but he will never be ready for the elite .. he was too schooled, destroyed, damaged .. they even thought about retirement .. Kovalev destroyed his spirit, his chin .. there is no chance to get back.
