Where does David Haye rank in Wladimir Klitschkos list of opponents? Is he the best?

Well I thought I'd bump this thread, to see if anyone has revised their opinion in hindsight or else, formed one on the basis of what happened last night.

Let me start by saying first of all, congratulations to Wladimir Klitschko. He fought a very good tactical fight and to me, proved he is indeed a very, very good fighter and a candidate for an all time top 20 HW. I rate David Haye very highly, and I was impressed with the way he nulfied him offensively and totally controlled the fight with his jab. Good defensive footwork as well, he's perfected that over the past 5 or 6 years and it showed.

As for David Haye, I've defended his HW endeavours these past few years. I defended him when he fought Harrison, saying it made financial sense and that I was sure he would fight Klitschko. I was delighted he proved me right. However, let me just say he lost a fan last night, someone who has been watching him since 2004 and has conversed with him a few times on MySpace and the like. Some of his conduct was embarrassing last night: from keeping everyone waiting like a prima dona at the beginning of the night, to flinging himself to the canvas, mostly when Wlad wasn't pressing any weight on him. Constant complaints to the referee and then that cringeworthy toe excuse...nah. Great Champions are magnaimous in defeat, if they really have been beaten like Haye was last night. Haye failed in that respect.

I was impressed he took a few flush shots I didn't think he would take and his defensive reflexes....but he was impotent in attack and I think severely underestimated the speed of Klitschko in terms of his hands and feet, he just could not evade that jab or catch Klitschko with any sort of combination, which isn't Hayes forte anyway I suppose.

I thought it was an enthralling fight, not dramatic but always interesting.

What did you all think and where do you rate Haye now after last night? One of Wlad's top wins or just another Ibragimov, Chagaev esque win?

    Your thoughts would be appreciated!

Haye did better than I thought he would.
I thought he'd get KO'd. His chin is better than I expected, but I doubt he would have lasted if he engaged more.

He fought like a *****, and he's certainly no better than a guy like Eddie Chambers.
He's no better than Chagaev - who came to fight.
He's no better than Sam Peter.
    He's no better than Ibragimov.

    Byrd was better.

Haye might be a notch below some of those guys, he flailed around like an amateur, stupid wild looping punches, and fell over almost every time Klitschko touched him - you can't tell me all those times were bad pushes.

Haye's the same joke he always was. And he's a bad loser, unsurprisingly. The guy is a twat and a completely mediocre heavyweight.

David Haye is Wlads biggest win easily.

Biggest as in highest profile fight? Yes

Best win as in win over most competitive opponent, no.

Ranking his opponents after last nights' performance I'd put haye above guys like Eddie Chambers and Tony Thompson, who were easily persuaded into being completely submissive in the fight and landed nothing of note in 12 and 11 rounds respectively. I'd put him below Ibragimov and Chagaev who were about as effective as Haye and had more respectable heavyweight resumes going in, and Sam Peter who caused him trouble.

I said before the fight that I thought Wladimir would win - on here and on other forums - but I held off placing Haye in the list of Wlad's opponents because I don't think you can rate that until after the fight. In all honesty Haye did everything he criticised the Kiltschkos' previous opponents for. Going in I felt he was a good fighter - if unproven at heavyweight - and I feel the same now. I don't have any desire for an immediate rematch, especially with the possibility of Haye retiring immediately if he wins.

I'd rank Byrd, Peter first time around, and Chagaev above Haye.

I think Haye is his biggest win in all fairness and he must be given credit for the victory, even if the fight was a little underwhelming.

    Great post.

Personally ... I haven't watched the Haye fight but I watch Peter 1 live and
I think it was Wlad's best win to date. He was under a lot of pressure at
the time and this is when I believe he clicked into Vlad 2.0

Haye has my respect for getting in the ring, but he's done an Audley Harrison
IMO and talked himself into a corner. I agree, had he had approached the
fight, or even post fight, by giving credit where it was due and somewhat
apologising for all his BS ... he would be doing himself a favour. There's
still time in the next few days.

I think Haye showed he was the best opponent Klitschko has fought since his losses (where he's improved a lot since then so its hard to compare). Haye to a large degree limited the success of Wladimir's jab, and he still found a way to win. Chagaev and Chambers were hit all night by the jab, stood right infront of Wladimir. Ibragimov was even more negative than Haye, he didn't land a meaningful punch all night so he wasn't better. The only one was Sam Peter in the first fight where its more debatable.
