In the lightweight division, and pound for pound? I was very impressed with it, against Katsidis. Fast, snappy, technically correct and he kept pouring it on for untill the final bell.
It's a fine jab, but that was against a very stationary target. I was very impressed with Diaz's controlled performance. He could get significantly better, more polished, which is something, considering he's already quite polished and only 24.
His jab was always excellent. I agree that it's easier to land against Katsidis, but a lot people who downplay his jab also thought Katsidis power would get to the baby bull. Diaz' jab and combination punching have always been very impressive.
i think im more surprised by diaz's jab is due to him being a a short fat lightwieght...you know what i mean. he has the instincts and tactics of a brawler or workrate fighter but he clealry has a solid gameplan. his jab is eimmensly effective. it was cutting the ring off to freitas. acelino had no way to go and when he came foreward got smacked in the face with the left. before he lost i had him on the cuff of top 10 pound 4 pound and a win over campbell was a clear sign of a mature fighter. but it didnt happen.
exactly it isnt just a striaght left for him it's his tool (did that sound wrong to you :huh ). i dont thikn it's the best in the world i thkkn there are some very good jabs out there....but it's how he uses which makes it so effective
hes always had a great jab but people just always seem to remember his inside punches and coombinations. but this time he was smarter and used that thing all the way through the fight.
