i have him around#7 and tbh he's a guy i like, but i can see the argument against him, specifically the losses and the ped issue.

Agreed. He was taking world class fighters the distance in competitive defeats at an age and under circumstances when most great heavys were either long retired or shot to pieces. He gave Lewis one of the best fights of his career at age 37. To put that in perspective, Joe Louis was shot and getting battered by Marciano at that age. Jeffries was finished.. Ali was finished. List goes on and on.

What was controversial about it? Holmes took a clear unanimous decision.

    Holmes Defeats Mercer by Decision
By Phil Berger, New York Times, February 8, 1992

    Life begins at 42.

It did for Larry Holmes tonight. He outslicked Ray Mercer over 12 rounds to win a convincing unanimous decision at the Convention Center.

All three judges -- Phil Newman (117-112), Eugene Grant (117-111) and John Poturag (115-113) -- gave the edge to Holmes, who has two grandchildren but also had more than enough guile and heart to beat Mercer.

"Too smart," said Newman afterward. "Larry did everything he wanted."

Do you just make it up as you go along?

Wrong.. He completely and utterly schooled and beat the shlt out of Mercer. The only good moment Ray had in that fight was landing a big right hand in the first round which rocked Holmes. But for the next 11 rounds, Mercer took a beating like no other fighter had taken from Larry since probably C00ney. I'm sorry but you obviously did not see this match.

Where did that guy come from? I haven't read such nonsense on here in years, and that's saying something.

He hasn't posted anything above the level of drivel since he has been here,I really believe he has mental health issues.

This may be the first time I've ever heard the claim that Mercer was robbed against Holmes. I watched that fight live back in 1992 and couldn't believe how badly Holmes beat the hell out of him.. Some people will say anything..

Top 10. There isn't a lot of fighters outside the top 10 who looked as good as Holyfield. That's as good as it gets when i look at him in his prime. Judging a guy based off his performances should be the number 1 factor when ranking them on the great list..
At one point or another he did everything possible it is for a boxer to do. i.e turned pressure fighter swarmer against Tyson and turned defensive boxer mover against Foreman.
Not a lot of guys had the dimensions he had. Most were only great in one area. Like Tyson was only great at coming forward. He had no other tier to his game.
I would rank Holmes and Evander has the best multi dimensional HWs of all time.
