Everyone is ridiculing Fulton right now, but he has been a successful champion thus far. But what's next for him? He just got dusted at 122 and obviously with no rematch on the table, and Inoue probably won't move up any time soon. At the same time, Fulton himself lacks the punch to move up and looked vulnerable to real power shots. I still think there are some good fights for him like Casamiero, but he's likely to take some time after that to recover moreso mentally than physically.
Philly, open a cheesesteak shop. In all seriousness, he may still have a good bit of useful prime left physically but this defeat surely must have left him with all sorts of psychological cracks & fissures. He'll never be the same in there. And since he doesn't really have the power to get & keep opponents' respect, it could get dangerous if he is caught with something that makes him freeze up and have PTSD flashbacks. There's a Monster lurking in his nightmares every time he goes to sleep from now on.
He didn't get clowned the same way, but this fight had a Calzaghe/Lacy feel to it where the loser just melts psychologically. There are no excuses or silver linings, as the fight was not remotely competitive and then a savage KO as the cherry on top. I like Fulton but am not sure how he turns it around.
He's gotta move up. There's nothing left for him at 122., and he can't beat Inoue so 126 seems like a no-Brainer.
His plan was to move up before so that makes sense. Try and get the rematch with Figueroa if he can, that was a good fight.
His only choice is to move up temporarily. He can't stay at 122 right now if he's fighting for legitimacy. He can take a couple fights at 126 and then move back down to claim the belts at 122 when Inoue vacates and moves up to 126.
He should also find a new trainer. That had to be embarrassing for him for his trainer to accuse his opponent of cheating and then getting knocked out.
