One of only 3 HW champs to beat every opponent they ever faced. Victor in two of the most famous bouts of all time. Twice beat ATG Dempsey. But, he wasn't a long time HW champ, most of his work was at lower weights, and its particularly hard to imagine him having much success at HW today. I'd put him in the middle teens, 14 or 15, due to his achievement and contributions to the sport. Where do you rank him?
that is a very difficult question,,, I don't have him in a top 30 but that's just me as I a biased towards the bigger more recent dudes,,,,
Astounding overall body of work but limited at heavyweight. Actually left the sport as he was peaking. Had the tools to be an ATG. Smart, tough, durable, great movement and an underrated punch. At heavyweight he would be tough against anyone until the division got really big. I would say around 15 is fair. Argumebts could be made for higher or lower but should be inside top 20 still today for sure
We can't categorize him as a heavyweight by today's standards.....But as a light heavy and cruiser weight he would certainly be top 5.
Bump. Would really like to get over 10 votes on each poll so I have enough to make a fair characterization of the polled results at the end.
didn't do enough to get in top 15 for LHW, and not an ATG HW anyway. However he is one of my personal favourites, a true fairy tale story.
I, too, am curious if that was a mistype, or if he really thinks Tunney is outside of the top 15 LHWs. :smoke
Maybe in the 50-75 range. James "Bonecrusher" Smith would have toyed with him. At LHW he's in top 50. Bobby Czyz plays with him for 8 rounds then Bolivianates him.
Again, this isn't H2H, its overall ranking, which can include legacy, resume, in era accomplishments. I use H2H as a tiebreaker or slightly more than a tiebreaker.
Legacy......uber rascist. Resume...defeated by blown up MW. Accomplishment....gift win over old champ.
