Absolutely. 3 years away from the sport and the pitbull was not the same fighter. Tunney's win over Dempsey is highly overrated when you have people putting Tunney way up on the ATG HW list.

To me, Tunney is a LH Great, not a HW great.

of all time consider it all way up at 19. Marciano for me lacks the defining wins that many other top HWs own. Holyfield, a great fighter, his HW career was more of an exhibition and less of a resume builder. He may rank higher P4P than alot of fighters above him however

    Duranium, What's the top 25 ?

If you can give a quick reason as to why, at least the top 10, I would appreciate it.

Hypothetically Greb could have beaten a younger Tunney at Heavyweight but the way things happened and the way Tunney demolished Greb in their last fight at Lightheavy I think I am on reasonable ground in saying that when Tunney got to focusing on the HW title Greb would not have beaten him. Greb is obviously greater.

Holyfield had a good resume at heavyweight.
He beat bowe, stewart, mercer, cooper, valuev, Foreman, Tillis, Dokes, Thomas, and Holmes.
Is that not good to you?

What defining wins did your # 2, Jack Dempsey and # 4 James Jeffries. get that puts them way above Marciano?

Marciano went 6-0 with 5 knockouts against Hall Of Famers. Marciano's record against Ring Magazine # 1 contenders is 5-0 with 4 knockouts. What more do you want?

    I disagree.

Harry Greb has a strong argument for having beaten Tunney in their fourth encounter which was not long before Tunney won the heavyweight title. Consider also that Greb was getting older throughout the series and Tunney was getting better.

I dont think it is a given that Tunney wins prime for prime at heavyweight.

Janitor...I appreciate the credibility given to Harry as a heavyweight in this thread. Especially the tunney fights. Many people think Tunney dominated Greb in their series. This is far from the truth.

But once again...if Greb rates highly at heavyweight..where does Mickey Walker, Tommy Loughran, Harold Johnson, Joey Maxim, Kid Norfolk rank?

They all have some prety neat wins at heavyweight.

People atempting top 100 and top 50 lists would have to consider these fighters rankings. They are all among the elite contenders of their respective eras.

Actually Moran and Greb were matched to fight in 1921 and the only reason the fight didnt go off was because Moran got knocked out by Bob Martin a week or two before he was supposed to face Greb. They substituted Kid Norfolk in Moran's place and the rest is history.

Tunney did not demolish Greb in their last fight. He beat him convincingly for the first time in their five bout series but he did not demolish him.
