Surely the right plan would be one that helps to win the fight?!

A lot of people believe he did win the fight mate, myself included. He should have made sure of it and let his hands go a lot more though.

118-110....i’m still flabbergasted by that score and even more surprised that nobody has an issue with the scoring. Fair enough if you thought Parker won, but by 10 rounds to 2? That judge for the GGG-Canelo fight got slated but nothing is being said about the judges here, just people revelling in a defeat getting inflicted on the Fury’s.

I must admit, I find fights that are as dull as this a little hard to score. It was hard to find an awful lot to score from either fighter.
118-110 seems wide but since many of the rounds looked almost identical, it doesn't really mean much, does it ?

From the moment those scores were read, there were many reactions on how ridiculous those scores were, myself included.
But it's a big difference if those scores were for the right or for the wrong boxer.
In GGG vs Canelo's case the difference between the consensus score was either 6 or 7 rounds swing, while the difference in the Parker vs Hughie fight "only" had a 3 to 4 round swing.
That's a significant difference in bad scoring

Also, Golovkin vs Canelo was a much bigger fight. Not even in the same league

If he bothers coming back 'The Fighting Man' needs to do some actual fighting. Sure, he might never be Shavers but as Paulie showed throughout his career non-punchers can have plenty of success if they're active enough and look to be throwing with intent.

Can anyone honestly say that Hughie looked to throw a hurtful shot in that?

It's unfair to compare the 2 fights I think, GGG clearly won that and the decision went against him hence why the scorecards are talked about more.

I feel along with a lot of others Parker won the fight. So the score cards become redundant in that matter

He tried to dance his way to a decision and two of them judges saw right through it and punished him for it. I’m glad they scored it wide.

But here's the thing: a fight can be CLOSE and still be 120 to 108 on all scoreboards, quite reasonably.

If every round is razor close and the judge things the fighter in the red corner edged all 12 rounds, he's obligated to score it that way. Even if every single round is super competitive. You don't go 'Well, I gave the first round to the red corner and it was close, the second round is close so I'll give it to the blue corner.'

I watched a good bit of it on youtube and I could see giving every bit of that to Parker for his aggression and the fact that Hughie was playing touch instead of throwing what I'd call punches. I just wasn't impressed with what Fury did (or didn't do would be a much better way of phrasing it): he was there to AVOID a fight. Boxing by moving and reducing the number of exchanges in a round but winning those exchanges, throwing some meaningful, well placed counters when making the other guy miss, is far different from approaching each 3 minutes with a goal of not allowing a fight to take place at all. Which is what he seemed to be doing.

I'm wondering if Hughie has ever been in a fight, even in a schoolyard, or if he's even ever seen one.

    Exactly.
Parker-Fury was almost an entire 12 rounds that were dull and virtually identical.
If a judge thought "Not much done in that round but Parker edged it with aggression" in one round, I'd expect the same judge to think the same thing in most of the rounds. The pattern didn't change. And output from both men didn't vary much.

    Interesting.

I don't know how accurate that is but I'm not surprised by Hughie's punches not landing.
The Fury camp have spoken about "making Parker miss", "Parker was missing badly" etc. but I thought Hughie's punches were falling well short of the target.

There seems to be a school of thought that says if a boxer goes "on the back foot" and JABS AT his opponent and avoids any real contact, somehow the act of JABBING "AT" the opponent and fleeing the scene is to be seen as "OUTBOXING" the opponent who is chasing. Whether the jabs land or not isn't counted.

Sure it is, but not the way Fury was defending by primarily staying well out of range all night (running). And it doesn't get the same credit for me if defense is ALL you are trying to do. A boxer needs to seamlessly switch and think about defense and offense at the same time. Of course you are going to be much better at defense when that is all you think about, but if that is all you ever do, you should rightfully lose each and every round.

Parker won the fight, but Hughie needs to fight more often, he is just too inactive...................he needs more aggression also.................
