Does the Hearns fights lift Barkley to HOF, or is he rated on the other fights. I think most people feel that the Hearns fights were stylistic wins, and not wins because he was great.
Not even in the same league. If Barkley hadn't got lucky and landed that massive right on Hearns in the first fight, no one would even mention him. People seem to forget Tommy was slaughtering him before he got smashed.
Under the diminished standards of the IBHOF, Barkley just barely belongs. He was a triple crown champion when that was still a novelty. Definitely not an ATG (which should be synonymous with HOF, but isn't). I think he represents a cut off point where IBHOF criteria is concerned. While I'm convinced The Blade will eventually be inducted, I expect that a wait of several years will probably be involved. He could be the club fighter's representative in Canastota.
Two victories over Hearns, and titles in three different weight classes pretty much ensure that Barkley gets in at some point, and based upon those credentials, probably deserves to go in as much as at least a few other inductees. But, p4p Buchanan schools him. :nod
Hearns was taking him apart with body shots when Barkley landed that right hook. That was a stunning turnaround of where that fight appeared to be heading
