Where does JMM stand today?

Let's all forget about Pac or Mayweather and instead talk about the forgotten one, JMM, otherwise Divac would jump again on the Pac PEDS bandwagon.

    Where does JMM stand now?

Does he reached the status of being a gatekeeper? or still a relevant fighter today?

He seems unable to go back to 135 where I beleieve he is best suited at the same time, he is noticeably slower with slower reflexes. Fighting those that are fighting in that division is a step down and tantamount to becoming a gatekeeper. Imagine fighting malignaggi, a meaningless, non-entity or Khan at 140 is actually becoming a gatekeeper.

The only meaningful fight money wise is against Hatton but apparently Hatton retired already.

The next sensible fight is against the light hitting Bradley at 140, a in-form fighter who does not necessarily have a name-recall among casual fans.

The rest of the welters is a career suicide.

If he can not get a sensible opponent, do you think he should retire?

    he ducked Khan

so that indicates hes not looking for a cash out and wants to fight awhile longer

    :lol::lol::lol:

The next fight or two will tell if Marquez still belongs in the mention with the elites today.

The rumor has it he might rematch Juan Diaz in Mexico.
.....probably a decent payday for Marquez, though I would rather him not waist the time he has left fighting fighters he's already beaten.

I'd rather watch Marquez brutalize Katsidis to then set up a fight with one of the 140 pounders.

    .......and how about this......
If Pacquiao really wants to stick it to Mayweather and prove that he's PED free and that what him turning down the 14 day window was about not letting Mayweather dictate terms.....

Pac can make a 3rd fight with JMM happen with full random testing of both blood and urine up to the day before the fight.

    How'd you like them apples?????

Pac can even call the weight, I'd mortgage my house on a JMM victory if Pac were to submit to full random testing!:deal:deal:deal

Fight Marquez with full random testing, and then Pac can say "****you" to Floyd Mayweather if Pac should win.
Having done that, Pac would be in position to call the shots and not bow down to Mayweather's testing demands in a fight with him.......proving that what it was all about from the beggining was not letting Mayweather dictate terms.

Something tells me Pac would''nt be down with such a scenario!:yep

marquez couldn't fight pacquiao now. pacquiao is a legit welter. Any of the ranked welters would KO marquez with the exception of floyd lol.

Marquez should stick to 140 and fight maidana to get his confidence back then go after khan or Bradley, both fights would be dangerous for him though

Marquez isn't a gatekeeper yet, but he is getting old and declining. I think Marquez might have one last great performance left, but I'm not sure where his next opponents are going to come from.

I'm not really sure he can be effective any higher than lightweight. Welter is obviously out of the question. And he's going to be undersized and outgunned in Junior Welter... he could win against one of the top 10 there if he gets a good style matchup and puts in that one last great performance, but otherwise I really don't know.

I don't think any performance he will put on beats that ko he delivered Juan Diaz. Fighting Hatton would've been a great idea and a great farewell for both boxers but like stated earlier Hatton retired. JMM shouldn't risk fighting again as I don't know how moving up in weight affected him esp. in his older age. I hope he retires and I wish him well.
