Never by a 19-fight unknown. And never in the first round. And in one of those fights, he was stopped on his feet. And that was against proven contenders. Face it, the only reason Khan has ever seemed to be a functional boxer as a pro is because he's been in with feather-fisted fighters. Even they, when they've been skilled, have hurt him, ie. Gomez and Limond. The man has a bad chin and brawls when he gets hit; he got this far based on careful match-making.
He can't go anywhere from here. This fight will make all of his future opponents' balls grow immensely. Each and every one of them will begin the fight like Khan's got red trunks on and they're ****in' bulls. They gonna charge after that ass till they finally tag him and he's out like a light.
Exactly. The elite fighters are a special breed, and this fight really puts Boxing into perspective. It takes something special to be able to be the best in this business, and unfortunately for Amir, he is missing a chin and that means he will NEVER EVER be a world champion. Sometimes we underestime just how tough this sport is, but it's by far the toughest.
Fighting someone the same size as him for the first time. Fighting someone with a high KO% for the first time Fighting someone who isn't a recognised has-been or journeyman Didn't even try to feel him out... apart from holding the gloves higher Khan came out pretty much the same way as in all his fights. As for the high gloves, he still dropped his opposite hand almost every time he threw a punch. It's no good holding gloves up only when your not punching - unless you've agreed with your opponent to take turns hitting and no counter punching! Then he tried to jump straight to his feet from the first KD without taking a couple of secs to get his head together. Champs need more than physical skills - they need a boxing brain too. Khans need to take some serious time out with a decent training camp and no fight scheduled until his trainer says he's ready to start his career again (from scratch). Unfortunately he's now tied into Warren and has 4 fights left to fulfil his sky contract. Bad timing for Khan - if this had happened in his last fight he could've tried a fresh start but now he's trapped by contracts which are bad for him.
These posts say all that needs to be said. Khan needs to hang em up. The comparisons to guys like Lewis are completely irrelevant because Lewis never had a history of not being able to take punishment. He took PLENTY of flush shots and stood up them well, not to mention the fact that the heavyweight division is completely different than any other division out there. At heavy practically everyone that laces them up has potential one punch KO power. Khan's had questions about his chin from the jump and this fight just brought them all out spectacularly. He's only 21, I'd hate for him to get hurt.
