And did what he was meant to do - beat everybody- in impressive fashion Wlad's era was worse and he couldn't beat everybody- was blown away by a 90's left over in two rounds. Stopped by a journeyman. Went life and death with the horrible Peter. Holmes produced two clinics against Shavers. Sam Peter was about 10% of what Shavers was. Is it not clear how weak this landscape was in compassion?
Absolute BS pal. Wlad's reign lasted from 05-15 which doesn't include Peter 1 and Brewster 1, you'll note he KO'd these guys in that period. Shavers was 70's leftovers as I said. And if you want to go back in time before Holmes's reign let's talk about the south paw Nick Wells that KO'd his ass twice in one round. Both times Holmes's azz carried out on a stretcher.
And what about your boy Vitali being iced by Oleg Maskaev? Let's leave amateur fights in the amateurs.
Holmes had a lot of the same perception problems at Lennox Lewis. Really talented boxers lacking in communication skills (low mic charisma) and in the shadow of a former champ that they both beat too late to define themselves as unarguably better. Sadly Lewis could have beat Tyson or Bowe if he'd had the chance earlier. That wouldn't have helped his mic fright, though Homes low top 10 or at least top 15.
What :huh Holmes fought Shavers in the 1970's Wlad first met Peter at the end of 2005. Wlads defense count which began right after he first beat Peter , doesn't undo the fact he went life and death with him. No great would ever , ever go life and death with Peter and be forced to run , cower and hold repeatably in order to survive. James Toney comfortably out boxed Peter without ever using a single clinch. What does that tell you about Wlad? I can't recognize him being a great when there'e so many glaringly obvious examples as to why he isn't.
Against very average comp and he needed refs in place to allow him cheat and foul as much as he needed.
that price ruined his role modelness he initially brought from eastern Europe. if he'd retired earlier he'd pehaps been seen as more accomplished.
But Poll asks "Where does Norton rank?" IMO, I'd rank him top 5. (Ali, Lewis, Louis, Holmes, Wladimir)
That still doesn't detract from the FACT that Wlad got starched three times by guys who aren't worthy to carry Larry Holmes' jock strap.
Here's where I have him: 1. Muhammad Ali 2. Joe Louis 3. Rocky Marciano 4. Larry Holmes 5. Lennox Lewis 6. Evander Holyfield 7. George Foreman 8. Mike Tyson 9. Wladimir Klitschko 10. Joe Frazier.
