Just inside the top 10. He's right up there amongst Duran and Pep. If he does beat Mayweather and Martinez(neither of these fights will ever happen, in my opinion) then he's right up there with Armstrong, just inside the top 5
i'll say this: from what i've learned on here MANY, if not most, great fighters are not appreciated in their own time and only years after they've retired are they truly acknowledged as greats. if pac is being touted, on THE CLASSIC of all places, as a top 25 fighter what does that say? how many fighters were being given such high regard by true afficionados of the sport while they active? if he's top 25 now on the classic, think where we're rate him 5 years after he's retired and the boxing world places his conquests barrera, morales, marquez, etc. in their own historical context?
I don't know... The sword could actually cut either way with Pac, IMO. Certainly everything below lightweight is going to win him praise ad infinitum. The stuff since? Once things calm down a bit, and some time passes - intrepid boxing historians who dissect the circumstances of all that above-135 gravy including his two highest-weight titles might find the stock a bit thinner than those of us who are still a bit close to it. If his standing does improve, hopefully the justification for it is more a growing appreciation for his halcyon days from 122-130 than the same present-day fascination with the circus that has followed.
but we don't do that with a LOT of greats. ross was past it, not quite as past it as oscar but probably more so than hatton, but armstrong's win over him is not nearly as scrutinized as pac's win over those men. schmeling was past prime by the first fight with louis never mind the second, but it was still a brilliant and chilling performance. i think pac suffers from overanalysis of the circumstance more NOW than he will in the future where people will see the names (oscar, hatton, cotto) more so than their current form just my opinion anyway
He is best Asian fighter - only because of leaps in weight - as i rate Villa higher at 112, Harada better at 126 and Elorde slightly higher at 130.
As high as Top25. If he would beat Mayweather and Martinez, Top20 with arguments for Top15. A special fighter for sure.
Obviously Pac is greater right now but Donaire is the man and I'm heavily interested in him and you never know PP, you never know, this guy looks so good it's silly.
