You've got to put it in the context of the time the fight was fought at though Vic. Margarito had done **** all in a while, and got obliterated in his last fight that meant anything. I thought the fact that he took that fight was a farce, but legions of fans came out trying to back Pacquiao as though it was a respectable move. Pacquiao was well proven at these higher weights too, well at 147, so it's not like a huge leap up from featherweight like Olivares beating Hart. I rate Pacquiao for coming from lower weight divisions in the grand scheme of things but the context you're putting this fight in is wrong imo, very wrong. If you're going to do that then you have to be consistent and say that Mayweather beating Judah or Mosley is a super-featherweight beating welters. I don't want this to be construed as me being a Mayweather fanboy, I just want consistency. Both Pac and Floyd are great.

I understand your points Teeto......Maybe I was being unfair with that comparison (Olivares and Hart), I just think he deserves some credit for that win, because of the size disadvantage...Margarito was a middleweight in the day of the fight(if I remember well).... I get your point on Mayweather man, true.....

    Probably top 30.

It's amazing to think where he was a few years ago, battling the Mexicans for
    featherweight supremacy.

Now he's being talked with fighting Martinez. :bbb

what do you reckon his chances are with fighting Martinez?

His speed and power advantages aren't as huge as with recent opponents,
and he'd be facing a guy who doesn't tire too easily and has pretty good pop as well.

I think he has a good chance but it's only really because he is Manny Pacquiao. Martinez isn't the most complete fighter but he is a dam good boxer and has that style which we haven't seen Pac up against in a while, Pacquiao could be walking into heavy artillery. Martinez should be the winner but Pacquiao is better than him when all is said and done, so it's a hard one.

I'd be rooting for Martinez if it ever happens
(gotta go with my latino brethren.)

Plus it'd be cool to have Martinez as well known as Pac is.
Im tired about mentioning Martinez and people automatically thinking he's a bum cause they haven't heard of him (well that happens to alot of fighters but damn it he's still in his fighting prime!)

Martinez is wide open and his MW elusiveness will be nulified by Pac's speed. But Martinez has serious MW power, a rock solid chin, is somewhat unorthodox and experimental and can fight for the 12 rounds. It'd be a very dangerous fight for Pacquiao and he may not make it to the final bell.

Ofcourse if he pulls out a win, Martinez will suddenly morph into a shot, poo-needing, non-trainer and Unforgiven will still rank Fat Willie Meehan 56 places above him P4P

I don't think he's gonna be getting hit at will by Pac, but yeah it'll look worse than recent fights.
And like you said he has a pretty sturdy chin so I think Pac will look to outwork him rather than try for the Knockout.

    Lets hope not.

SLim to none and Team Pacquaio probably know it, Martinez is the fastest guy Pacquaio will have fought since Marquez, is probably technically Manny's equal, with 15-20lbs in weight, 5inches in height, plenty of reach and hes a lefty. Plus Manny doesn't use much head movement or angles on the way in, that fight won't happen.

I do personally think you have to look at how dominant the win is, its not always if he blasts his opponent out quickly, but if he can say put on a clinic or avoid unnessary punnishment. Its boxing at its most spectacular, fighters that just seem unbeatable and so much better than anyone else, ie Tyson or Roy Jones before they lost have to rate over the likes of Delahoya before because DLH was in so many close not so dominant displays and you can just see the blue print to beat him

Yeah, like I say, I agree that when judging De La Hoya on film it is clear that he is not one of the best to do it, but let's just say for instance if someone of Oscar De La Hoya's caliber racked up the most amazing resume of all time by simply coasting to victories over all his best opponents, then I'd personally have to bite the bullet and rate him number one. This is all very hypothetical though, I doubt that will ever happen.
